Digital cards are great, and so are cards that are valid for a one-time purchase and then automatically canceled. But even those aren’t really necessary anymore. Most credit cards today can be temporarily disabled through your mobile banking app. I keep all my cards disabled by default and only enable them briefly when I’m about to make a purchase. As soon as the transaction is complete, I lock the card again. This prevents any unauthorized or unexpected charges. It takes a little effort, but not much.
