Once again you have a hard time understanding that the man you support and hold up high could not have possibly done anything wrong.  You do understand that a sitting president can not be prosecuted while in office and so the charging time starts the day he left office.

Have you read the "statement of facts" issued by Bragg's office in support of the indictment? It contains evidence that the payment was linked to the election.

On a short search of the document though, it strongly relies on the testimony of Lawyer A being Cohen, and that Cohen had always at the time been speaking on Trump's behalf. He could be seen as a fixer over a period of time, well before the election, and his predilection to lie in the past appears to give the case some potential difficulties. 

I concur the evidence is strong but I guess I was looking for some new smoking gun or links to other issues, from today's proceedings, but it didn't seem to be there.

The problem with this case is that from what I've seen, the charges against Trump would ordinarily be described as misdemeanors. If convicted of them they prove that he's a lowlife. But does any rational person need more proof of that. His mouth convicts him virtually every day.  But the legal theory that the D.A. is following is that because these misdemeanors were done in service of a felony, namely election fraud, then that's a felony. The thing is that the election fraud is a federal crime. So it's not at all clear that linking a state criminal charge to a federal crime is legitimate. A far stronger case will be made for his alleged obstruction of justice at Mar a Lago. And I suspect, if his White House staff and Pence are ultimately compelled to testify, he could be in trouble for the Jan 6 events and attempting election fraud as well.
