As air pollution from PM2.5 dust and forest fire smoke in Chiang Mai has exceeded the safety level, with the problem likely to get worse, Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn sought cooperation from both the private and public sectors yesterday, by allowing their staff to work from home today (Friday).

In the official request, the private and government sectors were asked to allow their staff to work from home, if doing so would not adversely affect public services or ability of companies to continue doing business.

Both the private and public sectors are advised to hold meetings through teleconferences. The public sector was also asked to consider opening dust-free facilities for members of the public

And not a word on how to stop the fire starters.

Great for tourism, come and visit the beautiful north... oh wait.

Nice that he cares for the office workers.

A just for show announcement.  Work from home is not an option for most Thai workers.

The governor is playing games with the lives of people. It is his indolence and incompetence that has contributed to this crisis. WFH is no solution because the air in workplaces is often better than in the house, especially of lower income families who cannot afford the capital cost of an air purifier not the electricity cost to run one. It seems the main qualification needed to be governor of Chiang Mai is to be "intellectually challenged" and this governor is supremely well equipped for the job.

What an absolute idiot, completely devoid of any understanding of his position as provincial governor.

He asks the private & public sectors to allow workers to stay at home so as not to breathe in the poisonous air.

What about the people who have to work outside.

What about the thousands of tourists who come to tour the city.

You Sir are a buffoon.

You should be sacked for dereliction of your duty.

Words emanate from ideas, this man has no idea.

Like himself, sat on his fat useless backside in an air-conditioned air purified office.

He should be sacked.

They have to find it first.

They are offering their yearly prizes for the first people to do so.

Same same every burning season here they don’t do anything to stop it which they could and the air pollution is just terrible. Here you can’t go outside without your throat or ice starting to burn CIT.

Why live there then?

So the request will be only until April 13?  Because how can one got out and celebrate Songkran while working from home?

Wow.

When one works in an office - and there's a holiday - one doesn't have to go to work in the office.

Similarly, when one works from home - and there's a holiday - one doesn't have to work from home.
