Castaway farang rescued from Thailand’s waters

In a TikTok clip that looks like a sequel to the movie Castaway, a group of Thai tourists on a fishing trip found a foreigner floating on a makeshift wooden raft in the middle of the sea off the coast of Koh Kood in Trat province, eastern Thailand, yesterday.

The woman who filmed the clip chartered a boat to go out fishing for squid when she and her friends spotted a wooden raft floating in the middle of the sea. As she got closer, she noticed luggage on the raft, and then she spotted a man. The TikToker wrote a message, “Where are you going to float?”

Balanced on the raft with his belongings, the floating farang didn’t appear to be in any trouble or danger. In fact, he looked extremely relaxed. The foreign man allegedly made the raft himself from palm trees.

The Thai boat operators were concerned for the farang’s safety as they said a storm was coming and if he didn’t make it back to shore, he possibly wouldn’t survive.

Then, another boat with marines on board arrives and pulls the raft back to shore, along with the foreigner and his luggage, as seen in the clip

What possesses a nut case to wander off to the ocean on a pile of palm leaves and wood?

Nut case are the main words.

Leave the guy alone, looks like fun.

He wasn't far off, meddling old woman.

If it weren't for adventurous hippies in the past, you probably wouldn't get all the retired civil servants and butchers that we have now

I can't see anything wrong with building a raft on a tropical island. I went kayaking there a while back, great fun.

Did he deliver the package ?

A sun burnt sailor he isn't.

If that's a real photo he hasn't been floating for long.

OK that's kind of weird. But, there are Thai tourists who charter fishing boats to catch - wait for it - squid?

This guy will fit right in.  Probably has no money, very little income if any,  and no health insurance.

So what?

Read stories of people lost or dead in jungle or on an island.

I see movies people climbing towers, buildings and so and playing there, 100's meters above the ground.

An airplane landing on a skyscraper and many more amazing, maybe "stupid things".

It is what people do sometimes.

He knew(?) what he was doing, why he was tossed away? Didnt ask for help or so.

So what?

Rescued? He seemed to be relaxed and communing with nature. I think he just wants to be first to see THE submarine.......

Not exactly the middle of the sea….looks like half a kilo from shore. If he had his luggage with him, where was he going? No mast or sail, so not a lot of control on where he would be able to go. Just drifting.

robinson crusoe who  has been smoking cannabis?

Stranger than the watergun warrior who couldn't get his rubber sand shoe off.

Whatever it was he had been smoking ...... please don't pass it around.

As Bill and Ben used to say  "Weeed"

So he was actually rescued, as wasn't that far off shore, and I could have actually swam back if needed, and tide in my favor.

Cool raft though, I like it, though he may want to fit an electric motor to it, sail or foot paddles ????

40+ years ago, Chaweng beach Koh Samui with only 2 bungalow guest houses built, we did close to the same. Made the raft, used sheets for a sail and got out about just as far. Started falling apart so left it and swam back in. 3 days of good fun building it and playing around. No internet to entertain us back then.
