Hi All,

I have a motorbike (Yamaha Nouvo 135cc / 12yrs old),

have a green book with my name as owner in it and

a Phuket registration plate for the bike.

I'm going to leave Thailand in a month or two, and I'd

like to sell it not in Phuket but in Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Can I ask you what I should do to sell my motorbike in

another province and what documents I'll need to get

or sign for that?

I won't mind going to the DLT in Phuket or Prachuap

Khiri Khan (in Pranburi, I believe) to collect forms to

transfer registration.

I wouldn't mind deregistering (or scrapping) it as a

last resort, so can I ask you how I can do that?

Thank you in advance!

Good evening,

Thanks very much for your responses!

Do you have a Non-B with a WP or Non-O

on you now? I bought it for 19kB 3.5yrs ago.

To tell you the truth, I'd like to sell it in Hua

Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan (not now, though),

because I want to drive it all the way up

there from Phuket.

Visa? you don't need a visa to buy a bike afaik, just 'certificate of residence' otherwise known as TM.18 I believe

I nearly went to Hua Hin last week, it's still on my todo list lol

I was told, 'You must have a Work Permit

to buy a motorbike under your name!'

when I bought it. It was alright, though,

because I had one then.

I bought a car, as a retired person, in my name...:stoner:

I sold my last bike by talking to the buyer who worked in a motorcycle shop.

I gave him the green book and the documents which I received when I bought it 2nd hand.

Done.

The buyer did all the transfer work.

Oh, I see..

The buyer working in the bike shop was

a Thai, wasn't he?

I might of needed to have a WP because

I went to the DLT on my own to transfer

registration as a foreigner.

To buy is different for a foreigner than to sell...

To buy need a proof of address, a certificate of residence, in old days that was only given with work permit or retirement visa, these days can get it with any visa .... (Most immigration offices give it...).

This is not needed to sell, just copy of passport that includes the visa page - visa must be valid and not expired....

Also seller must sign the green book and fill up and sign the selling form and power of attorney form. Then no need for the seller to go to DLT office.

Buyer can go alone with all docs and do it...., A bike shop can help to give you and fill the forms , or get forms from DLT office....

Good evening,

Thanks very much for your tips!

I've just remembered going to the DLT alone

with The Green Book & the power of attorney

from the seller (I don't remember if I had a

certificate of residence with me then. I did,

I suppose, though). And then I filled in the

selling form and where I needed to in the

power of attorney as the buyer. The officer

in charge filled in where the seller needed

to in the selling form.

So all the documents that I'll need as the

seller are a selling form and a power of

attorney (that have been filled in where

I'll need to as the seller) plus copies of my

passport photo & visa pages and the tax

sticker. Is that correct?

Hi,

I talked with 3 locals about selling my motorbike,

one of whom is the owner of a bike shop where I

sometimes go get it checked. He said that I would

also need a proof of address to sell it, so you'd

need that as well as The Green Book, of course!

When asked how much he could sell it at, the owner

wouldn't answer my answer straight away but told

me it could sell at 5k-6kB if it was a Honda Click!

(That's too cheap for Phuket, where everything is

more expensive!)

One of the other 2 locals advised me NOT to sell

it at a bike shop but direct to a buyer. Not only

that local but the other one took photos of my

motorbike (the owner of the bike shop didn't)

to look for a buyer for me! I'll see what happens!

I recently sold a bike and a proof of address was required.

Different DLT offices have different rules, and also they change the rules everytime you turn up...!!!

I have sold two bikes without proof of address in Phuket the last few years, on retirement visa (if that matters),  but things must have changed..., good to know the latest rules;  that proof of address is required for selling too  ...????

I sold two bikes a couple of months back .. no need for a certificate of residence.

I did as the first post, two forms from the DLT, and handed him the green books - I did however give him a copy of my passport, visa sticker, entry stamp and current extension and told the buyer, if there was a problem to come back. I printed an invoice to cover my own back. I never heard from the buyer again. I never had a certificate of residence from a westerner when I have transferred a bike to my name either.

I gather that each DLT is different, but I think generally (not in all cases or offices), getting a certificate of residence to sell a bike is a bit of a perpetuated myth. You know when you ask at a government office, and ask a direct question and they say "yes" and then you double check with a second question and the answer is also "yess" - however, if you don't have the necessary paper and you don't ask the question, then there isn't a problem.

Disregard anything you were told at the DLT in Phuket.  They are the most corrupt of any office in Thailand.
