Pretty good, on top of the amount of downtime/paid holiday teachers get, the regular incremental pay rises, medical coverage, financial benefits, and the pension they get at a fairly young age.

Good on you, lady, for starting the debate about the educational system in Thailand. anyone thinking this is excessive pay - I say balderdash. Principals are responsible for exercising a  complex set of skills: implementing the curriculum (an intelligent, self-starting principal would have valuable input);   parent teacher liaison; annual budgeting;  school maintenance. the list is endless. e.g. there are no Phys Ed positions in these schools. Thailand needs to up its game.  I'm delighted to see her taking the risk of rising above the average.

They can only teach to the standard they, themselves were taught and if you don’t know any better, they probably consider it excellent.

Currently biting my tongue after a 41 year career as a U.S. educator. Middle school, high school and retired as Professor Emeritus of History and International Programs.

Most teachers pay to get certain position's in certain areas.

 

Example: landing a job in your village most likely means you won't have to pay rent since your parents live there.

 

Education and training rarely really makes a difference.

 

This particular teacher looks as though she landed a good position.

For the top position in a school I'd say that's a reasonable sum of money.

I'm sure in the private sector a similar position would command the same or more.

I'd jolly well hope so given the minimum monthly amount you'd have to bring in to meet your retirement visa requirements is 65k bath per month. No expat regards this amount as impressive earnings. It's not an awful lot more than the basic UK state pension

This gal's salary is only a fraction of what they are able to rake in by way of corruption. My stepdaughter is a government teacher who manages the accounting for her school, and she tells me horror stories of how much money the director steals from the coffers. Krung Thai Bank gives them over 400,000 Baht per year for the children's lunch fund, and the director steals half of it. She works the teachers to death having them do tasks which are her responsibility while she steps out for "important meetings" that are NOT taking place. When the children go on school trips, the teachers have to pay for the vans out of their own pocket while the director pockets the money dedicated for the trip, and the list goes on and on. These people are nothing but thieves and thugs and deserve to be in prison for the atrocities committed against the teachers and students. My wife is also a former teacher, and she confirms that this type of behavior by school directors is endemic in the society and not just a one-off. I can't tell you the number of times I have seen my stepdaughter come home crying, and there's not a thing she can do about it. If she speaks out, she will lose her job. There's no such thing as an anonymous "whistleblower" here. If they file a complaint, it's widely apparent who is making the claim, so whistleblowing is non-existent.

So you're saying your paid every 3 month your pension UK EU . As far as l know most countries pension paid monthly, Australia is every 2 weeks , few years back was monthly !  l guess Aussie pension dropped to fortnightly in case you dropped dead,  only lost 2 weeks instead of a month Typical of Government's,  Every 3 months ???? or unless you mean > 3 months in total = 1 month  ! ln comparece with Thai School Principe monthly salary , without brown envelope used normally upgrade below average grades D to A

A school principal near us retired 10 years ago with a 2 million pay lump sum and 40k a month for the rest of his life. 

 

I'm not sure why people are so interested, the amount is neither small nor large.

Quite meaningful because they are specifically quite different roles and school directors are paid substantially higher.

She makes 3 times what a hotel worker friend of mine makes doing 9 hours a day, 6 days a week, with 3 weeks a year holiday broken into smaller breaks.

 

I'm not saying she doesn't deserve it, but millions deserve a dammsite more than they get in this country.

I don’t feel sorry at all for the school directors. There’s so much corruption and the school Director can take home so much money you wouldn’t believe it. They got a cut of his school lunches they get a cut of any major big maintenance have to be done in the schools it goes on and on she probably makes two times what she reports as a member a few weeks ago to school Director where they laid down over a few hundred thousand on his desk in an envelope. Then they arrested him and his defense was I didn’t open the envelope TIT

I can confirm this. I was a teacher here for 15+ years and this endemic cancer of corruption is inoperable. I chose to be a whistleblower but the winds of change were, as I expected, blowing the other way. I am lucky that financially the hit was managable and the respect i have earned for my principles amongst those that matter has been worth it. That was all 4+ yrs ago...

This is excellent.  Workers should all share information broadly about their employment conditions.  Solidarity brings power.  Secrecy only helps the Overlords maintain their grip.  Now other principals can negotiate their salaries by comparison.  Competition for labor means wages broadly should go up the more wages are shared by workers.

No, he's saying that he has 3 separate pensions, each of which he receives monthly.

Experience. I worked for 15+ yrs in 3 different schools and all the director's (5) I personally knew were corrupt. It's sadly par for the course here. if your saying she is not corrupt now it is only a matter of time. The odd's of getting a job as a director of a school, at a young age, without a payment and before older more experienced candidates is extremely small. The Ministry of Education are the root cause.
