I don't, and IMHO, think they've turned people off with their annoying silliness.   Haven't learned anything new, except how annoying and self centered special interest groups are.

 

I actually think I'm less open minded about the issue now than when I was a teen and in my 20s.  30s & 40s I was too busy living, 50s & 60s, just annoying, and I'd have to have kids in a western school.

 

Frankly think they've done themselves a dis-service.  Before, most people I know could care less, now, many despise them and don't want to be around them, or their propaganda near their children.   A complete reversal.

Isn't the freedom to marry a civil right?  Same-sex partners are not treated equally in Thailand.

What you don't understand is that that civil right, unlike that of straight marriage can be taken away on a whim. This is already being spoken of in some states of the U.S. which is why Biden brought in the Respect for Marriage Act that legally protects same-sex and inter-racial marriages from being banned by state laws. De Santis and possibly Trump would reverse this.

Here in Thailand it's no big deal. TV sit coms wouldn't be complete without a chubby ladyboy screaming. It's just not a big deal. In Isaan I heard a husky voice outside the bedroom window, looked down and saw a set of chubby legs with daisy dukes. ahahaa goes by the name Pancake. Then you turn on the TV or look at the news or internet and one is actually being ASSAILED 24/7 with heteronormative imagery and messaging pushing the traditional" family values and living arrangements. Last month they freaked out over a beer can. A wedding ring advertisement with two men would cause these people to go crazy and is overdue.

You're on the right track but it's not the gays who are doing all this. It's the trans agenda, which is being pushed all over the western world. edit to add, I do follow this subject non stop on different platforms, but reading through some of the previous posts here reminded me that in Thailand you still can't do same sex marriages, so that's obviously an issue. But the majority of controversy in the west is coming from trans women in sports, changing rooms etc and from very angry and irrational trans activists.

Not really.I have long been a supporter of gay rights, very much influenced by gay friends from university days and before.I certainly have no objection to Gay Pride celebrations.

 

But I remain puzzled by the phenomenon, particularly in relatively liberated Thailand, where discrimination is very limited.Same applies to UK and other Western countries.What exactly is the point?
