Age gap relationships might seem wrong, but they work. Trust me

 would seem that the phrase “you’re never too old to ...” comes with an expiration date. Al Pacino is said to be expecting his fourth child with girlfriend Noor Alfallah – he is 83, to her 29. The shockwaves in reaction to the news are palpable: and mostly centre around the couple’s age gap relationship.

We also had the recent news that Robert De Niro has become a father for the seventh time, at the age of 79. Both men are famous, both actors, both presumably well-off – but criticism of their life choices makes me uncomfortable.

The dynamic here isn't really all that different than that of Thai/Westerner relationships in which large age differences are a factor, i.e., she's mainly interested in the number of zeros in his account balance, and he's willing to pay the price for some young tail. A story as old as time.

Al Pacino can have as many kids aS he wants because he is Al Pacino.  But what about Al Smith living on Social Security in a basement apartment in the BronX?  Age is not relevant when fame and money are plentiful.  J. William Marshall was 89 when married Anna Nicole Smith.  Marshall was only worth 2 Billion when died at 90.

Actually, it looks weird. When your with someone that looks like your daughter it looks weird in public. There’s no way of avoiding it. You need to overcome the feeling of people staring and gossiping.

well I've seen similar in Pattaya where an old farang who is 80+ is perched up on a bar stool and has a young 20yr old tucked under his wing.

It is mostly judgemental western females, religious right cult and jealous males who make negative comments.  Last I checked, there is nothing in the Bible dictating the age of your partner or to be a parent.

Good for Pacino and Deniro hope they enjoy it.

It's a bit different surely? Pacino and De Niro are charismatic and hugely talented multi millionaires.That's not the description one would give to the (usually) large gentlemen not necessarily of much class (judging by manners and accents) tottering around Pattaya with their reformed (sometimes) bar girls.

While waiting for the lift at a building in Bangkok, I was next to an old fella the other day, he looked about 80 years old.... struggling to walk with a cane... his misses looked about 40-50 yrs old. 

 

It looked like she was nagging the life-force out of him...   he just took it... my interpretation was that he was simply too exhausted with life to tell her to go forth....  However, ear-wigging a little more, her nagging was was ‘caring’....  “I told you, I could have come to do this, you didn’t need to come”..... “Stand here, you’re blocking the entrance there” etc etc...    all in the kind of grating English that some of a certain demographic and specific geographic region of Thailand come from having ‘picked up their English skills along the way’...... 

 

 

.... But, I judged.... I found myself guilty of what everyone does (although some will argue), judge others around us...  At the same time I ‘self checked’ and thought, good on the old fella, if thats what makes him happy.... Good on her too, if thats what makes her happy....  

 

It was a scene to be hold... But let's face it.....  Most ‘mixed relationships’ with a wide age range and clear juxtaposition of socio-educational-economic status are often quite a scene to behold...  

 

But who cares...  we all look, we all judge, but just don't hold any judgement...   both were probably lovely people. 

 

 

 

But large age gaps...   They’re for the single, newly looking, or someone soon to be looking... or even someone willing to pull the wool over their own eyes...  works for some, not others, such is the colour of life.

Perhaps not unusual.... but the usual assumption is that such relationships are born of a need for ‘security’ on the part of the female to settle for someone she may otherwise avoid if she were financially independent. 

 

Thats not a popular comment within these fora....  but neither is it inaccurate. 

 

If both parties are happy, good luck to them... There is a lot to be said for finding security and it is of course also born of instinct going back millennia...
