Police apprehended a British man who launched a bicycle into the glass door of a house on Koh Lanta, an island in Krabi province in southern Thailand. He admitted being intoxicated and angry after losing his mobile phone.

A 20 year old Thai woman, Kanittha Kokyai, filed a complaint at Koh Lanta Police Station saying that a foreign man caused damage to her glass door. She also submitted security camera footage capturing the incident as evidence for the police.

Kanittha explained that she was not home when the incident occurred at 2.33am on Tuesday, June 6, but her neighbours and family members notified her about it. Kanittha reported that the British man threw rocks and a bicycle into her house causing 30,000 baht damage.

Kanittha said her neighbour tried to talk to the British man about the issue, but the man ignored her and just walked away from the scene.

Why so aggressive in your reply?

Please tell us if you know more of the story.

If a drunk foreigner threw a bike through your window, would you ask for 1, 000 baht to fix the window, or as much as you think you could get?

It's common practice here to get as much out of foreigners as possible, and Thais often laugh/brag about it.

No one 'Brit-bashing'  yet ???.....     I'm surprised as these threads usually drag in the brit bashers like a 'Thai Auntie to a seafood buffet'....

Big difference between the Russian & English chaps in their retaliation capability. 1 throws rock at his gf window the other goes bang bang bang to his biz associate 555

Please explain what 'international infliction of emotional distress' is.....   and how it could differ from 'domestic infliction of emotional distress'.....

... and also how you calculated the 'value of destress' to a perfectly rounded 1 million baht.....

You’re forgetting the now legally established " broken wing mirror "  precedent allowing for 30x punitive damages uplift..

Or more likely your house insurance agent assessed the damage at 30k.Maybe you dont own a house so we should excuse your ignorance of such matters.

Glass is very expensive. I had a small car window repaired for $250. It was was 20cm by 50cm. That was the cheapest quote and 2nd hand part.

30,000 baht sounds about right

I wouldn't go quite that far, but I'd say a 5 years in solitary confinement would be a little more fair.
