I'm sure some immigration people do read this forum. This was discussed here many years ago.  Likely policy maker types at a higher level to get a feel for what the great unwashed f-rangettis are thinking and doing. Yes, stuff they read here can be used against us.

As far as your personal concern at a provincial office, not likely a problem.

Monitored for reasons other than immigration, you can take that to the bank.

Our "visa status" and presence in Thailand is a back back back burner issue for any government of the day.

In any case, immigration services should be removed from the RTP, they are rubbish at keeping track of us anyway, as the recent Phuket debacle proved.

There is no such thing as a retirement visa.

Please tell the immigration offices, embassy, etc to remove  "Retirement" from their signs, links, etc to avoid confusion.

There is no early cancellation provision in my rental agreement.  I am told an early cancellation provision in rental contracts is not common in Thailand.

Talk to your landlord to accept that you only want 3 month contract at a time, but immigration want a year contract for you to renew your extension.

I don't think he will decline your request to insert a clause in the contract that states that either party can give xyz days, weeks notice for the occupant to move out and the contract becomes null and void, on that day.

I'm not confused.

In the visa forums "Retirement Visa" conveys nothing.

Could be a Non O-A

Or Non O based on retirement

Could mean Extensions to either of those 2 visas.

Or ME non O retirement.

All different.

So there is no such thing as a Retirement Visa except in its several forms.

I guess I was confused.

Get a retirement extension in Pattaya and use an agent.

Problem solved.

I'm literally 'married to Thailand' as someone who have been married to a Thai women for 15 years who doesn't want to move to America.
However - if I was a on a retirement visa?  I would have been gone a decade ago and moved to Mexico or The PI or perhaps certain places in South America or even Europe.  I would not be here unless I was married.

Thailand is one of the most unfriendly, foreigner hating countries in the world.  And yet?  Ya'll keep coming, and then complain when the obvious racial discrimination rears its' ugly, nationalistic head.

Hey retired people.  Why are you still here.  This country hates you unless your net value is in the millions.
My question OP is:  Why are you still here?

Stop.

I have explained the term "retirement visa" means and conveys zero information for replies in forum.

You are just being ...

If someone requires information often the main thing is current status in Thailand.

Be that extensions or visa or whatever.

"Retirement Visa" means nothing

Ridiculous post.

I'm living in Thailand on extensions based on retirement from a non O.

Very simple annual extension.

Hardly millions .

I maintain 800k baht for the financials. Easy peasy.

I don't find Thai people hate me at all.

Quite the opposite.

Very sad post from you.

That could not occur.

A non O-A visa is valid for one year and is a multi entry visa.

No way known that a lease would be a requirement.

In any event the OP has not contributed for 24 hr and never stated immigration office.

Waste of time.

Just stating a fact. If you do not believe me that is up to you... I even phoned with the "lady" at the embasy, my guess was they wanted me to sign a lease with someone they know back in TH.

DrJack your posts in this thread already show a lack of respect of facts retirement visa etc so I guess waste of time to post a reply to your post anyway.

You are quite right. More specific info is required in order to be helpful to someone with their retirement visa.

I was responding to the smug pedantic few who claim there is no "retirement visa". There are several such visas.

They actually stamp "Retirement" in the passport if the extensions are based on retirement.

In that situation, there is no ambiguity.

I completely agree with the view of others that discussion of "retirement visas" needs to be clear about what is meant. There is a huge difference between

  • single entry Non O from an embassy/consulate;
  • multiple entry Non O from an embassy/consulate;;
  • Non O applied for and issued at an immigration office in Thailand;
  • Non O-A (always from an embassy/consulate;);
  • Non O-X visa;
  • extension of stay based on retirement after initial entry with a Non O-A visa;
  • extension of stay based on retirement after initial permission to stay based on a regular Non-? visa;; and
  • LTR-WP (Long Term Resident Wealthy Pensioner) visa.

All of these (at least informally) can be regarded as "retirement visas". Sometimes, the situation can be inferred by context. Also, we cannot expect members who are asking questions to always be aware that their posts are unclear. Tolerance, and a gentle request for clarification, is all that is required when that happens.

That's correct, and this type of extension is generally referred to as retirement extension, which is shorthand for the "extension of temporary stay in the Kingdom for the reason of retirement" for which which an application was submitted with the form TM.7

Confusion and ambiguity has arisen because many people and even the website of the Immigration Bureau erroneously use visa to mean "permission to stay", eg visa extension, and this has resulted in the use of the erroneous derivative "retirement visa" to mean retirement extension. As a result, it is often necessary to ask a poster to ask what he really means.

The only true and correct use of "retirement visa" I would consider to be any non-immigrant visa received from a Thai embassy or consulate for the purpose of visiting Thailand for the reason of retirement and the non-immigrant visa issued by an immigration office with TM.86 or TM.87 for the reason of retirement in Thailand
