Sriboonruang Wittayakarn School, in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Nong Bua Lamphu, appears to be the first school in the province to allow their teachers and students to wear clothes in accordance with their gender identity.

The social media spotlight landed on the school when a teacher, Pathumporn Chakrak, wrote on Facebook explaining that her gender identity is not the same as her birth gender and thanking the school’s director, Natnachai Baiokeb, for granting her permission to wear trousers, instead of a skirt at school.

She said that, previously, she wore trousers when she arrived at the school in the morning on a motorcycle and then she would change to teach in classes.

Why is this even news?

I worked in a school 7 years ago that allowed teachers to dress according to gender identity. As for students, they were lenient towards hair style and make up but not uniforms.

i find the story amusing, this gender politics bull<deleted> is such a snakepit.

in reoprting the story the news outlet consistenty misgenders the teacher referring to her as she, unless the story is wrong and she is just a lesbian who perfers pants. While she is wearing those trousers do the students have pernission to call her him?

Quote

he said three transgender students recently sought permission to wear clothes matching their gender identity. He added that he asked to see their parents and they didn’t object to their children’s wish.

This however leads me to beleive there is still hope, unlike in the west where the parents would be cut out of the loop until one day their child came home with a state sopnsored vagina.

Your gender identity is the same as it stands on your birth certificate, period!

Yes.  Progressive countries like the UK have allowed people to change the gender shown on their birth certificate since 2004.  I don't think Thailand does, but once the new government are in office I would expect it to change.

Another standard gone, what ever happened to teaching standards & discipline? Next the military institutions will want to wear what they want ????????, in my opinion a school uniform was a good way of levelling all of the students, no wonder the Thai youth think they can do anything they like with no consequences.

It doesn't say no uniform.

it just gives the option for the pupils to wear the uniform that suits the gender they feel themselves to be.

Simply put.....they may wear a boys or girls uniform.

Fundamental failure to comprehend on your part.

Assigned Sex is what is on your birth certificate.

it is assigned according to the appearance of specific parts of your Anatomy

Gender is something else, the clue is in the word Identity.

You, and many others on AN, really need to get a bit more info on how it all works, because you talk like people who don't really know the subject/study/science.

You do not have sufficient knowledge or understanding to make a worthwhile contribution to the discussion.

Just as I could not if I tried to take part in a conversation about Quantum Physics, Crypto Currency, Cricket, or Australian Football.

You have a narrow, uninformed.......opinion.

The fact is that you are way out of your depth........it's all beyond you.

You are in a "pre-knowledge" state of mind.........and your prejudice determines that you will stay that way.

So I will waste no more words on you.

So, you mean, when you said your, it is like that? Wow, that´s a gigantic hubris-chip on your shoulder. Let´s say like this. I am ok with the old dictionary from the end of 1800´s. No need to change things that always worked and are a natural piece of human evolution.

See here: The Oxford Etymological Dictionary of the English Language of 1882 defined gender as kind, breed, sex, derived from the Latin ablative case of genus, like genere natus, which refers to birth.

So, I guess that was explained. What you are trying to do here, is to call unnatural behavior a study/subject or science. Cr*p is what it is! Be happy for your life, accept who you are and live your life as nature intended it to be. Can it be so hard? That´s like the Big Bang Theory! We can take is from the religious side as well. As God created you, you shall remain! Eureka!

That was much at the same time. I have a narrow, uniformed opinion and I am out of my depth in a pre-knowledge state of mind where prejudice rules. It bascially all behind me! Wow! That´s laughable, from someone that defines unnatural feelings and behavior as a science.

Trying to make the meaning of gender a part of sexual orientation if totally wrong, as it is two totally different things.
Now you should have one thing perfectly clear for you. I have all the knowledge I need to make up my opinion, and I do not accept someone coming up from nowhere, telling me what an unknowing and narrow person I am, just because I do not accept this behavior in society.

Progressive??!!! Wayward, you must have meant, right? If you change your gender on your birth certificate, then you are deleting the truth.

More worryingly, are the teachers made to follow the "preferred gender" of the students and call them he/she based on their uniform while they probably still look exactly like their actual biological sex?  Kids in charge of adults is never a good idea.

Under 18s should really be left out of this.

Agreed.

One man's/woman's/insert-gender idea of progress is another man's view of child abuse.

This crap does not belong in a classroom.

It's a generational thing.  Some conservatives/traditionalists have always found progressive change uncomfortable.  Being gay was not accepted by some, many years ago.  You'll get used to it and hopefully let people live the life they want.

Where do you read that I do not let people live the way they want? I am discussing and ventilating my opinion and view on the subject. I guess that´s the purpose of a forum, or do you have another opinion? Please let me hear. ????

Therefore any change people are uncomfortable about must be a good thing?

I have an opinion; like many others.

I don't think gender can actually be changed, no matter how you "identify", or whatever surgery or hormone treatment one undergoes.

How you "identify" and dress is entirely up to the individual.

My opinion may be narrow, uninformed or simply different to yours. Either way I, there it is; make of it what you will. I am simply not interested in this argument. It is pointless getting involved.
