Have the English ever had a moral streak? Only on the cricket pitch I reckon. If we didn't have morals while we were rampaging across the world, we could at least point to cricket to show fair play..

Seems to me the claim of "moral victory" because of the rain, is rather unique. The British Open Golf 4th day was also played in bad weather, but they played on, and we didnt hear any claims from the losing players that actually they would have won except for the rain. Nor that the internal "out of bounds" were unfair and in the spirit of the game, players whose balls go there should be forgiven. Rules are rules mate!

He won’t even condemn the sandpaper cheating affair, which was on an unprecedented scale; any time it is mentioned, he just deflects with, what about this, or what about that, never once condemning it, or the damage it has done to poor Cameron Bancroft. As you say, rather embarrassing.

how fast the poms seem to forget that in 2005 atherton(former captain) had dirt in his pocket to use on the ball to get reverse swing, trescothick was their  head ball tamperer as well using mints to effect the swing but again thats fine because it is england, poms are so pathetic, cannot handle losing, poor babies, just dummy spitters because Australia simply did what england invented so their bowlers could get reverse swing or they would have had their ar*es handed to them

IIRC, the Maxwell family is nothing to boast about either. AFAIK we haven't had government ministers shagging or being shagged by Soviet spies. Perhaps you are too young to remember Profumo. History can be painful sometimes.

Aren't we getting off topic a tad? Australia won on British soil, wickets doctored to Stokes's specifications. England lost. Bairstow's dismissal was within the rules of the game, something he has done himself. It's a bridge too far to claim that cost England the Ashes.

There's an old saying, catches win matches. I suspect if the two sides are compared, that is the real reason. Bairstow alone missed chances Carey would have swallowed.

Can't argue with that. Totally agree. Bairstow batted well in spells but overall don't think he was up to scratch behind the stumps.

Maybe test rules should change so  complete days unplayed should be added to further days, so 5 days total is completed, if required

Nonsense. Rain has always played a role. Both teams a week out knew rain was forecast. Draws are rare in sports. Adds to intrigue.

Vaughan was captain in 2005. Atherton cheated in the 1990s.

Yes they keep deflecting. England made the following errors

1 declaring on day 1

2 picking unfit Bairstow

3 crazy batting in test 2

 

Thats why they lost.
