The Postman keeps trying to 'befriend' me.

I have a recurring scenario thats been going on now for about a year.

every once in a whille mrs smith will order a package online that gets delivered by a particular motorbike driver.

he delivers post/packages etc.

when i first laid eyes on him he began with pleasant small talk, then again nice and pleasant when I saw him next.

However, around the 3rd time he started with the regular nosey Thai spiel along the lines of:

'where are you come from' 'how long u been in thailand' what you do here, you have thai wife, how much money you make etc etc etc.

so around the 4th time i made it clear to him that i was too busy for chit chat and abruptly went back inside.

 

for the last 3/4 visits i have made it patently clear that i am not interested in any kind of friendship/chit chat with him at all.

but still he persists this morning.

'you come from where?' how long you stay here? you like thai food?

all i want to do is collect my wifes parcel and go about my business.

I do not want to chit chat and I hate small talk, especially when they are using probing questions.

 

why does he continue to want to befriend me if i have made it perfectly clear i dont want to?

I usually no longer open the door to postmen but today i was so busy i just answered automtaically. 

 

do they not get the hint? do i have to tell him to eff off for it to hit home that i dont like him?

maybe next time i will let loose on him if he starts chatting me up again.

Guess he just try to be friendly and polite, no more than that :-)

My problem with wife and daughters buying things online all the time, like 3 times a day minimum, is they see me usually sitting at my pool and think I am illiterate -  they start giving hand signals and looking very confused.

What is a a Postman? I read somewhere they are supposed to deliver mail. Now Lazada are using Thai post COD they keep phoning me "Were you stay, me no speak English"  so very slowly i try to tell them in little Thai I know, they just stop listening and ask the same question over and over. One of my pet hates is not having ANY post delivered. Just got my land tax bill, recorded mail, my wife found it stuck under her shop door 1km away.

Yeah, there's friendly and there's friendly! 

 

Our postie is a nice chap generally, but never more than "hello" in English. It does mean that we get our post if he sees us out and about rather than him putting in the box.

 

One positive was that he gave Madam a bunch of koi coz he "needed the space for something he could eat". Ruddy things live better than I do with their filter, UV, air pump and special food

The ones that deliver to me are usually so busy that they phone ahead and say, "I have package. Will leave in security box in 5 minutes."

If I am there to collect it, they will give to me. If not, it will be in the security box.

 

But maybe your one is building up to ask you for a loan.

Stop chatting to the locals, they know nothing about anything and left school age 12.

Having a friendly postman or postwoman is a plus, they go the extra mile for you and don't 'mislay' your post. My one has rung me up while sorting the letters at the post office, "That letter you keep asking me about is here now, be with you shortly", she now stops for a coffee and chats with the wife, relax, you're retired, not running from danger.
