IMO that is 100% BS.

I haven't seen much activity by governments at all. I don't count the IMO fraudulant carbon credit get rich scheme as "activity".

They could have used the covid lockdowns to build railways to replace domestic flights and did nothing. In fact they have welcomed the return of flights.

They could be building nuclear power plants and have not done so. More like getting rid of the few that exist ( I'm not including France in that as they have a large nuclear power infrastructure, but have had it for many years ).

All smoke and mirrors, IMO.

If your point is that national efforts to reduce pollution have been lackluster, I can't disagree. Some countries have made efforts, but overall, results are not so good.

And the planet keeps warming.

I laughed like a drain when I saw that. Yet another talk talk fest in an exotic location to which hundreds of officials will FLY, when they could do it by VDO conferencing- hypocrites all.

Then to hold it in Dubai which exists as it is today because of oil is taking the mickey.

Anyone reckon the UAE will be announcing that they will be stopping pumping oil this year? :cheesy:

The in-your-face hypocrisy abounds, doesn't it? And yet so many pretend to be oblivious to it.  if it threatens the narrative it gets dismissed, ignored, debunked, spun, etc., etc., etc.  To their detriment it really is a very limited playbook of tactics and after awhile the constant repetition does begin to bring clarity as to what's really going on.  It gets to where it's impossible to ignore.  I find it fascinating that more than a few posters here are able to continue ignoring all the red flags and their accompanying alarm bells.  Maybe they have cotton stuffed in their ears.

Since the topic is about warming, do you think the Sun is making the Earth warmer than before? Do you really believe that increased Solar output is responsible for the last 40 years of warming?

I never said anything about "increased solar output".

If you think there is another heat source that is warming the planet, do tell us about it. The sun is the only one I know about.

Back in the 80s, as I remember it, they were saying the planet was going to get colder, not hotter

This is an old chestnut.

There was a short term cooling trend in the 1970s, during some scientists speculated that this might lead to an Ice Age, if the trend continued. They offered no studies, nor did they predict more cooling.

At the end of the 1970s, there was talk of a nuclear winter that would result from nuclear war.

Some low information types conflated these two distinct speculations into a memory of scientists predicting global cooling.

and it will keep warming till it doesn't, or all life on the planet is exterminated.

Governments have apparently known about the effects of warming ( stronger storms, drought, floods etc ) for decades, yet have done sod all to protect against such events. Shame on them all.

In the 60s a teacher told us that all the oil would run out in 20 years. People get stuff wrong all the time, and having a degree in science doesn't make them infallible. I've known stupid people that call themselves scientists.

As for MMCC, a very interesting movie came out some years ago ( The great global warming swindle ) and I prefer to believe it's viewpoint over the MMCC theory.

A movie featuring scientists funded by the oil industry, claiming that the current warming was caused by increased solar activity.

And they were wrong.

In your opinion, given you present no proof they were wrong. Al Gore made a movie predicting all sorts of things and he was wrong too, IMO.

The planet has been warming for 40+ years.

What natural forces are increasing solar temperatures?

Here's a hint:  when you want to boil water, you have to turn up the heat on your stove. Likewise, what is "turning up" the Earth's temperature?

Al Gore, in his movie about Global Warming, predicted that the planet would get warmer.

He was right.

One of the participants was Richard Lindzen, who has been consistently wrong about Global Warming:

The top chart is Lindzen's, the bottom is from NASA.

Lindzen has predicted cooling back in the 1980s, and was wrong.

Of course, he receives funding from oil companies, and has lied about it:

Are there fields of science outside of climate science where you think scientists are wrong?

Do you think the Earth is flat? Do you understand that FlatEarthers likewise think scientists are wrong?

LOL. Scientists have got it wrong as long as there have been scientists. Science is too primitive at this stage to know much about the universe and how it works. Much is guesswork, based on unproven theories.

I know the earth is curved because I can see that for myself on the ocean horizon. Don't need a scientist to tell me it's round.

Here's a thought. If the scientists that promote man made climate change had irrefutable proof there would be no debate about it.

No one seriously disputed the cause of the ozone hole and remedial action was taken. That's because the scientists proved their theory beyond a reasonable doubt.

Far as MMCC is concerned, there is so much to doubt about the pro scientists statements that many, many millions think they are wrong.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: No heat pump? Put your thermals on, you're nicked

Under new legislation, which sailed through its third reading in the Commons this week, homeowners and landlords whose properties don't meet Net Zero targets could be fined £15,000 and jailed for up to a year.

Compulsory installation of fridges, washing machines, immersion heaters and so on, all connected to the internet, will allow the Government and the energy companies to monitor electricity consumption and switch off your supply if they think you're using too much.

Take a read of some of the insane and twisted logic which is being accepted as valid these days (lots of the same used here on this thread, too):

Some of the more bonkers MPs even thought these draconian proposals didn't go far enough.

Brighton's Green MP Caroline 'Here We Go Looby' Lucas called for an immediate end to all gas and oil exploration on the bizarre grounds that this would free us from dependence on Vlad Putin?

Tory MPs warn pursuit of ‘cultish’ eco-policies could see customers paying more

On the plans that could see property owners who fail to comply with new energy efficiency rules facing prison, he [Craig Mackinlay] said: “I do feel that when we create criminal penalties in this place, it is a duty that it is discussed properly that we put our fellow citizens potentially in prison for 12 months for an unknown offence of the future relating to net zero.

“We actually allow freedoms, we allow the market to decide and this Bill goes in the wrong direction.”

I can just imagine what freedoms a climate emergency would trample over.  Maybe climate change cultists don't mind the loss of their freedoms but most people don't.  Perhaps some of you folks will change your tune once the loss of freedoms starts affecting you personally.  Well, come to think of it lots of people didn't mind during the Covid lock downs - and actually relished in the virtue signalling - so I wouldn't be surprised that some of you wouldn't just continue being good little soldiers.

Note that the movie you refer to was debunked long ago. And the planet has gotten a lot warmer since that movie.

The MMCC was debunked long  ago.

I don't want to get into the consensus issue.

Instead, you could demonstrate that there is a continued debate by providing recent scientific papers disproving the Global Warming hypothesis. There are hundreds, if not 1000s of papers proving some aspect of Climate Change that are published every year.

But, even with oil company money, scientists rarely produce contrary peer reviewed papers, because of the reality thing.

Let me recap the bidding. Please tell me where you disagree:

Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and traps heat in the lower atmosphere.

Until 40 years ago, CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere have been at 280 ppm. Today, CO2 is at 400+ ppm and rising.

Additional CO2 causes more warming.

Much of this excess CO2 is produced by humans.

So, with which of these do you disagree?

Whether I believe in witches or not is nothing to do with this topic, so stop baiting me.

I think politicians should look at all the evidence, not just that of one side.

You are making it up AGAIN. I never said anything about scientists who receive funding from oil companies.

Here's some more recent insanity in the push for Green, this time from Germany.

German lawmakers pass heating law that divided government

German lawmakers in the lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, voted on Friday in favor of a controversial law aimed at phasing out oil and gas heating systems.

In principle, newly installed heating systems in old and new buildings should be powered by at least 65% renewable energy.

According to a survey commissioned by the liberal newspaper Die Zeit, as many as 70% of Germans reject compulsory regulations on banning heating fired by oil or gas or paying for obligatory replacements of their heating systems.

These idiots are sealing their political doom.  Take note some of you posters.  By and large the people don't like it, are extremely p!ssed, and the amount of anger which is building on a daily basis is eventually not going to be contained.  You folks are the spearhead of what is destined to become an awesome explosion of energy (pun intended) as the dam bursts.

At the same time, the government's approval ratings are steadily declining, while the popularity of the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) grows further.

Lots and lots of money involved as entire new industries are created to service and make possible this Green transformations.  The billionaire class is well poised to further enrich themselves greatly as they invest in all of these new industries.  Since governments are the ones creating these new policies, and will be enforcing them, the billionaire class is guaranteed a safe investment.  For as long as it lasts, in any case, for nothing is forever.
