The only thing more boring than a drunk, is an ex-drunk telling everyone (unasked) how long it's been since he had a last drink! What, do you want a medal?

No, a beer.......................:drunk:

They don't drink ethanol, nor tea, nor do they take caffeine or use tobacco.

It shows.

They always seem so happy...

Expensive.

The O Heineken or the Moet? I settle for Prosecco here, but with family and great seafood in Australia, it's Moet.

My understanding was much of the lead poisoning during Prohibition came in the form of bullets.

Be that as it may, it is estimated 1 million people still die annually from lead poisoning. Children are the worst affected.

The US government mandate to add methanol to industrial ethanol was a biggy which contributed to MANY deaths.

The Government ALWAYS knows best...

Just like Mother.

I know it's a joke.

But, lead poisoning from bullets was not an appreciable causal factor for death during this age of prohibition.

Can't relate to the issue not being a drinker at all, quit smoking though several years ago, which i loved, owing to health concerns, other than that, no vices at all, a real angle I'm.

I gave up smoking as well many years ago but still have a few glasses of wine at night but gave up drinking beer or spirits which are expansive in my country.

Stopped in February.

I was in the hospital for several days in mid-April.  Haven't smoked or had a beer since.  I do miss the smoking at times.

Unfortunately it seems that quite a number of expats in Thailand have alcohol consumption problems.  Either full blown  alcoholics or just heavy drinkers.

Ethyl?

or

Methyl?

What about gasohol E20?

Without ethanol rotting the brain cells, memorization of vocabulary should become more efficient.

It's no secret that the Mormon missionary youth in Taiwan (and elsewhere) are super proficient at foreign language acquisition.

They don't drink ethanol, nor tea, nor do they take caffeine or use tobacco.

It shows.

They always seem so happy...

Brainwashed comes to mind, at least with me.

They say it can take 18-254 days for a person to break a habbit.

If one can't stop drinking alcohol at any time, IMO one is an alcoholic.

I gave it up years ago with no problems and have no desire to ever get drunk again. Waste of money better spent on things I need.

I used to have an alcoholic neighbour that was unemployed, but still partied frequently with several unemployed louts. Of course they smoked as well.

One wonders where they got the money from to drink and smoke considering how expensive they are.

One of them that was a problem ceased to be so by getting drunk and driving a m'bike too fast.

Methyl alcohol is poisonous, it's where blindness and death come from with illicit alcohol. Hence the term blind drunk. It is metabolized to formaldehyde in the liver.

Oddly enough, the therapy for methanol poisoning is to imbibe even more ethanol, as it speeds up elimination.

Being the Stickler for Detail that I happen to be, I just wanted to point out something I know that you know, but neglected to mention, namely that, depending on the process, some alcoholic beverages may contain minute percentages of methanol, both through the fermentation process and through the distillation process. I searched the net for a few good links clarifying this point, but was able to find only this, in short order:

https://byo.com/article/the-alcohols-of-beer/#:~:text=One of the main pathways,be more careful of methanol.

Being a chemist, you could easily tell us the processes by which this happens.

However, I may not be available, for a certain period of time, to read your reply, should you post one, because, you see...

I may be going on sabbatical in coming weeks, perhaps months.

Everything is just so uncertain at this juncture of time.

Life is full of these little uncertainties.

I know that I shall miss my old pals, but also know that they will be very well looked after.

Well...Ta-ta...

(And, yes, I know both meanings.)
