How can they even possibly over rule a Supreme court decision... The elite can ignore court decisions unless the verdict is in their favour. Court decisions can be fought by their lawyers until everyone has died of old age. In this case I dare say there has been a brown envelope of understanding which over rules any legal argument. 1
crazykopite Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Am I surprised absolutely not like everything it’s brushed under the carpet hoping it will be forgotten 1

It's not about the population being stupid, it's about them being Thai. This thing happens all the time to allow people to save face or get away with corruption. Generally people know not to say anything publicly about it and just go along with the story. After all, they will probably want people to ignore their corruption at some point, so it's kind of reciprocal. It gets a little awkward when people suddenly demand to know what actually happened. Generally this only occurs when the corruption is seen as being too high so people complain, or it's too public so someone needs to do something about it so they don't lose face. 1
wealthychef Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Yay! Wristwatches are back! This story is eternal!

Of all the cases of politicians (supposedly) breaking the law by not declaring their assets, there are 2 that immediately spring to mind. One, where a politician does not declare a number of very expensive watches, claiming first of all that they are not his, merely "borrowed" from a friend (bow lox!), and secondly he can not return them to the friend as he is now dead (more bowlox) and thirdly, he had forgotten about them anyway (yet more bow lox!) Result - no action taken, and the findings and facts of the investigation kept under wraps. Two, where a politician does not declare his shares in a now virtually defunct media company therefore no financial gain. Result - barred from being able to stand as a Member of Parliament with the result and facts of the investigation made common knowledge. No prizes for guessing which 2 parties these 2 politicians represent! 6 1 1
Scouse123 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 At least he has one nice face. His watch face.

Why keep this man in place .. no use he is sleeper Sleeping on his watch then.
Popular Post Denim Posted August 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 11, 2023 Shoulden't be a problem. Since the facts of the case are not to be revealed then proof of innocence or guilt has not been established. Therefore , until the facts are disclosed Prawit should be banned from political office until such time as he is positevely proven innocent. Until then , it must be presumed that he might be guilty and not allowed to take any political position. 3 2
Purdey Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Too obvious that there is corruption going on. 2
Joseph98765 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Is this his new way to showing that he got a new watch?? 1

DJ54 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Another case of throwing the dog a bone…. to further disrupt the political arena or is the circus in town…
PETERTHEEATER Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I do hope this will not affect the publishing of assets of the outgoing PM as required by the Constitution. ???? 2
paul1804 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 For you to think for 1 second why you supposedly feel the details cannot be released is a reflection of your intelligence and the level of your integrity. Even the uneducated in Thailand know exactly why you made this statement!!!
newnative Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Unbelievable. Every time I think this will be the last time I type 'you can't make this up', along comes another story far more ridiculous and absurd than any fictional story.

Popular Post Spock Posted August 11, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 11, 2023 Vomit-worthy stuff. Thai politics is a joke best ignored by anyone who wants to live in this country. The rich and famous escape punishment and scrutiny every time, aided by the very bodies and systems that should be investigating and punishing them. The Red Bull killer is still free to wander the world, as is Prawit to own $22m in watches and become the next PM. Meanwhile, the only guy who presents as a leader of substance is excluded over B42,000 of useless shares. This country has a long way to go before it has any chance to be a true and fair democracy. In fact, I think achieving this target is impossible. 2 1

No problem. Just redact the reports to show Witness A and Witness B.

In fact, I think achieving this target is impossible. It wasn't B42,000 worth of shares. It was 42,000 shares that are worthless because the company is delisted and has no operations. It is a subsidiary of AIS that they have to keep going because it is in an interminable lawsuit with the government for terminating its TV broadcasting licence abruptly due to its association with Thaksin. That was also the reason for the clause in the constitution prohibiting ownership of media shares - i.e. Thaksin acquired the TV station that was intended to be an independent station and used it to gain an unfair advantage in the 2005 election. Thaksin is at the root of most problems in Thai politics, 1 3

Did he declare the shares? I was under the impression that he didn't - was that not the reason for him being barred from being an MP? But I did hear that he signed them over to his father, so didn't feel the need to declare them. All a bit academic really - the point I was making was that one politician had undeclared assets of millions of baht, which were not declared (belonging to a friend) and the other had virtually worthless shares (which apparently belonged to/were transferred to his father.) Not too different - except the value of course?
