BANGKOK, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who returned from self-exile on Tuesday, will serve a total of eight years in prison, according to a statement by the Supreme Court.

The jail term covers three different cases for abuse of power and malfeasance, illegally ordering a state-run bank to issue a foreign loan, and illegally holding shares via nominees.

Will he be actually be in a five star jail?

Is the trade off worth it?

Lets see how the election turns out,it could be a disaster for PT.

Even if it takes 2 weeks before he's out of clink, he still makes the dinosaurs look like the very little men they really are.

Lol, he won't actually stay in jail, he'll go home and be asked to keep a low profile.

"Thailand's ex-PM Thaksin to serve 8 years in jail - court statement".

I don't think so...

He may serve a very limited amount of time in a very different kind of detention, before bail/probation/parole/health or whatever the deal cut sees him released.

Serving time as far we know AKA he goes down to a tunnel inside the prison and into some luxury penthouse elsewhere.

Such a thing, per se, does not exist in Thailand.

I'm sure it does, you just never got to the level to see it exist.

Those people leave being told they have a 'transfer' to outside prison, I mean seriously, where does Premchai even stay? Did anyone even see him in jail once?

LOL I will believe it when I see it.Although I didn't believe he return at all so I know nothing

I did get to the level of knowing, through personal experience, that it does not exist.

8 years?

No doubt reduced to a 200 Baht fine for pleading guilty (and agreeing not to annoy the Junta).

What a clown show.

He was imprisoned in Thong Pha Phum prison after the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the lower court.

"...HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn had recalled the insignia and the 4th level Rattanaporn Medal bestowed upon Premchai in 2005 by HM King Rama IX ...

The royal announcement was dated April 25, 2023.

“The summary of the Supreme Court’s ruling is that the three defendants jointly possessed a black panther carcass,” the court said. Premchai would be “jailed for 38 months,” added the court. He is still serving his prison sentence at present".

I know that you made up that garbage but, just for shiits and giggles, from where do you assert that you got that "information"?

What is "the clown show", the eight-year sentence or your "B200" comment?

Get back to me when he's sleeping on the floor in ankle chains ????.

UPDATE:

THAKSIN WILL STAY IN PRISON MEDICAL WARD

After a medical check-up, the Department of Corrections stated that former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, 74, has five medical conditions. He will be held in a separate medical ward within the prison and monitored by medical specialists.

The five conditions include ischemic heart muscle, chronic pulmonary inflammation, high blood pressure, degenerated spine, and abnormal posture.

The food he receives in prison will be provided solely by the prison, and his visitation privileges will adhere to the same rules as other prisoners. However, only his lawyer will be allowed to visit during the first five days of his incarceration.

No one wears ankle chains inside Thai prisons unless they are being punished for in-jail misbehaviour.

Does Thailand have minimum security prisons or are they all the same?

  • Popular Post

how long before he is out - deal already done, no way he came back to be locked up for 8 years

do they think everyone reading this BS is stupid

  • Popular Post

He isn't going to serve 8 years in any Thai prison facility of any kind. I seriously doubt he would have returned if he had any expectation of anything like that...

I'm just waiting for the other proverbial shoe to drop.... just how he's going to be allowed to weasel out of his legal sentences / punishments (for the past crimes he committed) with the cooperation of the governing authorities... And just how that outcome is going to be sold to the public.

Normally under Thai law, AFAIK, there are no pardons for people who haven't served at least a decent portion of their original sentence in actual confinement. But truth be told, they tend to make up the rules as they go along in cases like this. Money talks.

IMHO, these guys lie like most people breathe.

Does he rest for a couple days at the medical facility, recover from jet lag, before the royal pardon comes through?

Yes they do.

They have to be careful he has many enemies, in jail someone just might take a pop at him for fame and fortune,
