Food court card expires in 30 days.

Featured Replies

I just lost 410 baht to Pattaya Festival food court. A while ago I loaded 500 baht and eat something for 90 baht. When I now eat again the card is empty. The money expires in 30 days. (I didn't ask if you must load within 30 days or just use the card within 1 mo.)

Stupid policy.

No, not stupid policy. It the same policy everywhere. Often only usable on the same date. It's a food court, not a bank!

But then we can go back to the Soviet system. One line to choose food, one to pay and a third to order.

The benefit of a card is to pay quickly and easily. Now you must do like Scuba wrote, cash it every time if you eat seldom.

But it is the purpose they try to make us believe. All know the true purpose is to make us become used to cards so our movements, preferences and finance can be monitored by the large corporations.

You didn't have a 90 baht plate of rice, you had a 500 baht gourmet dinner.

Explain.

It would be stupid to set the expiry of all cards to 6 months, or 12 months? 1 month is optimum intelligence in your opinion? Explain yourself.

It is just too short. There should be plenty information when it is so short.

Obviously you had to register the card with your name, DOB, passport, address, blood type, sexual preference and medical history, right? And you signed a waiver for them to share whether you had a kao pat or a pad thai?

Or perhaps it is just a card with money on it so the small retailers don't handle cash and therefore can't cheat Central out of revenue. You are supposed to cash them back in after you've eaten and give the card back. But I agree, 30 days is silly, as is your entire post.

But…. it actually states that on the card. At least it does at Pier 21.  Obviously you didn’t bother to read it.
A bit dopey to load for 500 baht in the first place if you only intended to have a 90 baht dish(or thereabouts).
I don’t always ‘cash out’ if I intend to return in the near future. Or if just a bit left, I will give it as a tip.

What? No it's not. Tell me one place that these cards are marketed as convenient. Or even at all.

No no that's not it, either. Try again.

(hint: it has nothing to do with the consumer)

Its common knowledge that those cards have an expiry date and its often written on the card or there is a sign telling you , but its well known that those cards expire after a specified time

You don't eat (or load?) for 30 days and your money is lost. A majority of posters ferociously defend this policy! Go get yor pay checks from George Soros!

It is not just about convenience for the users. It's also about accounting, loss prevention, fraud, and laws and regulations.

If you are really interested, ask a Thai accountant. I was involved in a similar project in Thailand and the provider had to be careful to follow some "banking laws". Sometimes it's not as easy as it seems to be.

It's not at all about convenience for the users. For those users who do find it convenient, that's just a happy side effect.

I, for one, have never found it convenient to take an amount of money that can be spent on anything, and transfer it to a format that can only be spent in one place :)

The rest of your comments are spot on. Well done for taking the time to explain it to the OP. Personally, I thought that everybody already knew this. It had never occurred to me that there were any people who actually thought that these systems were designed to improve their purchasing experience!

I just eat at Big C after more than a month. The card hadn't expired. We just have to conclude our opinions differ. To me it is very convenient to just load the card maybe every 3 months and eat when I please.

I think you're starting to believe that Thailand is not so great after all.

Thailand is great. One stupid card will not change that ???? I am also a refugee of the war in Europe. ???? I LOVE it here.

Whatever you do, (have lunch, use card, buy bike, find wife ...) it will work better the further away from tourist areas you go. This is a Festival problem, I guess.  ????  But Patts is also great.

Maybe its not the policy that's stupid..just saying

Hadn't eaten at Lotus for a while so I first checked at the cash counter. "No expiry, come next year if you like" they said. And BigC has more than a month, I didn't check how long.

So the idiot 30 days expiry only seems to apply to  Central Festival food court among the places I sometimes have lunch.

Why don't you just read the terms on the back of the card?

The force of the corporate trolls is strong in this forum. 😀 Naturally it is better with no expiry.

Sorry. I don't know how that relates to the post you quoted.

Again.... If you want to know how long the card lasts, why don't you read the back of it, rather than asking at every location you frequent?

I'm actually trying to make life easier for you. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It never occurred to me to leave a large balance on a card I'd probably lose before I ever used it again. Always cash out after eating. But then again, I prefer eating at restaurants rather than food courts.
