Info in MiniMart, 7-11 / FamilyMart Margins

Featured Replies

Just at the early stage of considering an opportunity that has presented itself.

Premises that could be an independent minimart, or 7-11 / FamilyMart franchise.

Side soi off of Sukhumvit, about 300m from a BTS, many hotels and condos. Nearest mart is about 300m away (7-11).

What are the usual gross margins on items sold in an independent minimart?

What are the usual gross margins on items sold in a 7-11 or FamilyMart?

Thanks

Family Mart is no longer active in Thailand, looks like CP killed another franchise here.

Whatever you want to do ,it is a lot of hard work and not as easy as it looks like.

As far as I know, if you start a 7/11 franchise gross margins are the least of your worries.

CP All requires you to pay a certain sum to become a franchisee, and then they set the margins.

So they also know exactly what you earn, and if those profits reach a certain level, they will either setup another franchise near you, or build their own, much bigger, company run 7/11

I rather doubt CP or 7/11 would divulge the information you are looking for.

Plus it will be different for different products / product areas and could l frequently change according to the current market forces / market environment and government policies.

Plus there will always be 'competitive advantage' factors involved to compare 7/11 pricing / top line / bottom line margins and operational / distribution costs.

As said CP (in Thailand) and/or the ultimate 7/11 brand owner (in Japan) have strong controls on the factors which build / change pricing. And nothing you can do to challenge them.

No. That is not how it works at all.

They didn't kill it - they bought it.  Most have rebranded as Tops Daily.  And this is not CP but Central Group.

I would search on Thai-language forums, either the help of a Thai (if you are not fluent) or as a start, Google Translate.

example: 7-11 franchise site: pantip.com

Note that CP/All is part of one of the largest corporations here, and defamation laws are quite severe, so any potential negative aspects may be self-censored?

Family Mart was not "killed by CP", it was bought by Central/Tops and is now called Tops Daily.

Huh?    What is not how what works?

The independents that try to compete with 7 don't seem to last long, you see them pop up in Sukhumvit and Sukhumvit side roads but they come and go quickly within the space of a few years, I think there's a lot of brand appeal to Thai's for 7/11, Tops Daily, Tesco Fresh etc.. even if it's just some silly pokemon stamps.  Independents don't seem to scale beyond your mom and pop shop making a tiny subsistence for the soi or village or moon ban, not worthy of any investment.  If you have a look on Google Maps street view and go back a few years you may find it was previously a mini-mart especially if the interior is already suitable (hanging ceiling etc..)
