Pattaya — A female bar employee suffered a severe electric shock after she leaned on a light pole in Pattaya. The allegedly flawed pole was situated on Third Road in South Pattaya in front of a fitness center (name withheld).

The terrifying incident took place at 5:30 AM on Sunday, September 24th. Emergency responders and The Pattaya News rushed to the scene to inspect the situation.

Upon arrival at the site, authorities found a Thai woman named Ms. Patchanicha Munpen, aged 25, lying on a footpath, surrounded by her friends. They performed life-saving CPR before rushing her to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. The woman was severely injured, mentioned the rescuers.

The Pattaya News interviewed the victim’s friend, Ms. Omjai Chaisaeng, aged 31. She stated that she was accompanying her peer, who was a bar worker, to her accommodation after work because she was heavily intoxicated.

Good idea pointing at a pole which caused a severe electric shock

  • Popular Post

I'm surprised there is not more of this type of thing around pattaya.

Inspection panels open, wires hanging out, you can see this all over town.

Around road construction areas,  even worse.

TIT.

Hope she recovers.

Looks like someone has tapped in on the pole supply with twist and tape, the latter not being sufficient to stop the joint shorting out on the "half re-fitted" cover.

Would be about "lean on the post" height.

Exactly, there does appear to be a few extraneous wires there!

She should know better than to lean on posts.. this is all her fault, now someone will be called to lose face over shoddy wiring... and have to apologize and give her 200 baht

This is Shocking News.  I hope she makes a speedy and full recovery.  Another bit of knowledge to add to my Thailand Survival Guide.  It does seem that people learn things the hard way more in Thailand.

Guilty as charged.

[pun intended]

Wiring is not one of the Thai's fortes, along with many other things.

SERVE AND PROTECT

I expect  every single member of Pattaya's invisible police force to walk the length of 3rd Road touching lampposts.  It will six months for them both to make this journey.

Did the zapping leave any marks on her skin? Did it resemble a number? Looking for lottery numbers please.

...tragic accident, but one must always remember that electricity poles are there to distribute electricity, not to provide support for drunkards

I thought they'd just finished a huge project placing all those cables underground? I always see loose, dangling wires in BKK waiting to shock me into oblivion.

Could have been serious if a drunk guy had used the pole for the other common reason......!

Plus a basket of chicken stock.

Probably another example of shoddy work where quality and safety come second to backhanders.  Sometimes as much as 25% creamed off the top.

Nah he was just about to touch it to find out if indeed it could kill you. Thai wisdom init.

Should use his tongue like testing a PP3 battery.

The person who 'repaired' the wire and ''haphazardly wrapped it in plastic tape without proper insulation'', should be charged and jailed, for putting peoples lives at risk, and causing severe injury.

If she doesn't recover then manslaughter at the very least.

I don't think there's a single Thai person ,high-class excluded, that hasn't been jolted several times in his life.

They are immune to it..until they aren't.

But you can't put the lights underground.

typical example of electric installation on 95 % works
