Been searching for it, and according to miuirom.org it is possible using fastboot rom.

Is this an official site that can be trusted?

I can download an official fastboot rom from the links you provided yesterday.

The miuirom.org site is not official, though it sounds credible, and they advise against using the tool available on the Xiaomi site, but suggest using their tool.
