If he speaks out, deputy police chief Surachate Hakparn has warned, the entire Police Department would crumble. He possibly couldn’t be any more wrong.

The whole police force crumbled the minute he uttered that sentence. It doesn’t matter if he is being politically persecuted, or if he does know something, of if he was just making an empty threat. What he said bodes ill for himself, and for the Police Department.

It’s a bullet that destroys his own dignity even if what he said was true. This was a man once tipped to become the head of the Thai police someday, so what does his warning say in the grand scheme of things? That he was keeping some dark secrets about the organization that is supposed to protect public interests and defend the innocent people who can’t defend themselves?

That he knows the secrets is one of two possibilities. The other possibility is that he was only bluffing because he did not know that much. Either way, however, what has been left of public trust in the Thai police is getting blown away. If he was telling the truth, the Police Department is rotten to its core, a situation that will likely continue if he becomes the next chief of police and therefore chooses to stay silent.

Something tells me he is one of the good ones, and that we are going to hear a lot more about Surachate Hakparn. The fact that he 'attracted the attention' of those in the Thai Police who wanted to make sure he does not become Police Chief so they raided his house in public - speaks volumes.  If he was one of 'them' (corrupt) then they would not have taken such steps to make sure he did not get appointed as Chief this time.

This is a guy that was 're-assigned' to the HQ 'black hole' many years ago, and re-emerged a year or so later, and then became a Deputy Chief.  He made some senior police upset over how he harshly dealt with the police involved in that execution of a policeman by a mafia member, and because of that the station police boss killed himself.  Many years ago he had 7 bullets fired into his car, and he was told to back down when investigating the matter and that was when he was 're-assigned'. Those things and many other things tells me that he is one of the good guys.  But TiT and I could be wrong.

If it was Lethal Weapon he'd bring it all down, then have a karate fight on the lawn at night with the sprinklers on.

Don't kid yourself.

This is no more than internecine warfare between equally culpable thugs in a rotten system.

Foot in mouth comes to mind, not so clean then joker.

Wow he's full of himself.

What an amazing threat.

"Nice police department ya got there, be a shame if something happened to it.

Can't see him coming back from threatening to expose ALL of the corruption.

What a loser.

If I was Big Joke's PR team, I would argue that, yes, he has long know all manner of dark secrets about the corrupt police, but he had to bide his time until appointed #1, so that he could then go about correcting the wrongs. If he spoke too soon, he'd never get the top job and never be in a position to rout out corruption.

Maybe that excuse would wash.

Will he be the next senior policeman to be forced to claim asylum in Oz? Rotten to the core are all uniformed Mafia in Thailand.

I would advise him to stop digging.

He just can't resist being the center of attention.

Making threats is, in my opinion, not the sign of an innocent man.

It is obvious that the Thai police is rotten to the core.

There are lots of very obviously shady people in there. It is well known that large amounts of money have to be paid to get into the police and to get promoted.

How could an honest person be able to get into that organization and stay there and even get promoted? Impossible!

And obviously this is only possible because the politicians allow that to happen.

And those politicians, who are often local influential people, are voted into their positions by the Thai voters.

The system is rotten in every way, not just the police.

Rumors swirling that there has been a Happy Ending to this conflagration.

so wait ...

he publicly admitted he has knowledge of crimes committed by police officers ?

and he also admitted that he doesn't act to investigate these crimes and therefore he is not only failing his duty as a police officer, but also failed his legal citizen's duty to report the crimes to the prosecutor ?

is there any way he can remain a sworn officer of the Law ?

As with all happy endings here in Thailand I'd bet my bottom dollar a sum was involved.

I don't want to say what the rumor is re: the amount.

Remember, This is Thailand.

The last senior policeman the seemingly knew too much fled to Australia and I believe is still there. Bear in mind that he didn’t arrive as a penniless refugee, he adapted very quickly to a pleasant existence.

Bottom line is the RTP is a basket case. We know that.

What will they do about it?

Nothing. We know that too.

Next.

And a wanted criminal can control Thai politics for years from outside of the country.

He knew all the secrets. As one of the deputy directors, he was at the top of the nation's largest pyramid scheme. How could he have possibly been clean?
