snoop1130
The elderly woman who hurled verbal abuse at then Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, during his visit to Ban Pong district in Ratchaburi in March this year, was sentenced to six months and 10 days in jail and fined 1,000 baht today (Tuesday), without suspension, by the Ratchaburi District Court. In imposing the sentence on the defendant, popularly known in the district as “Pa Na Ban Pong”, the court ruled that she had encroached on the security zone maintained around the prime minister and his entourage. Police had asked the defendant to leave, but she resisted, said the court, adding that she did not repent for her actions but threatened to sue the officials who were performing their duty at the scene in a manner indicating her disrespect for the law. Popular Post bamnutsak
Selective application of the law, with significant punishment, keeps the public in line. This way you only have to jail a small percentage of the population, while frightening the rest into self-censorship. All individual rights "guaranteed" (cough) by the Constitution are severely limited, and open to "interpretation". Section 34. A person shall enjoy the liberty to express opinions, make speeches, write, print, publicise and express by other means. The restriction of such liberty shall not be imposed, except by virtue of the provisions of law specifically enacted for the purpose of maintaining the security of the State, protecting the rights or liberties of other persons, maintaining public order or good morals, or protecting the health of the people. So Thais have the right of free speech as long as they don't say anything. 3 1
WildBillHiccup
I wonder what a 'Speakers' Corner' would look like in Thailand? (Some Non-UK citizens may have to Google Speakers' Corner?) A Speakers' Corner is an area where free speech open-air public speaking, debate, and discussion are allowed. The original and best known is in the north-east corner of Hyde Park in London - England It would seem that very little is a Taboo on Speakers Corner. Loads and loads of it on YouTube ... ... ... Popular Post brianthainess
Prayuth must be feeling so proud of himself, couldn't even stand up to an elderly woman, He has always been a disgusting worm. (no disrespect to worms intended) Has he moved out of the barracks yet? has his money been declared after leaving office yet? Why is he being left alone by the press? Lets hope this lady gets a hero's welcome inside. 5 1 2

Popular Post spidermike007
This had absolutely nothing to do with security. It was all about repression, showing the people they have no voice and a cruel, over reaching judiciary that is still controlled by the extremely toxic army. Thailand joins Burma, Cambodia, Russia, China, Saudi, Vietnam, Ethiopia, North Korea, Cuba, Iran and Azerbaijan as a nation that is intolerant of telling it like it is. Shame in the judiciary. Shame on the army. All moral authority is gone, baby gone. 1 1 1
