During that time a day without Thai Visa was a day wasted, and I spent far too much time on it. I even got into strife at work for having a surreptitious gander at it on the work computer ( I didn't stop doing that, just got more sneaky when doing so ).

I remember the exact time it all changed and it was a certain day in November in 2016. after that I got suspended more times than I can remember, and my relationship with TVF became more adversarial.

Same here.

I think I know what you mean.

Totally agree! It has been highjacked by a hard core of approx. 12 idiots/Bots/paid for posters who may be increasing the "click count" but are ruining the site!

  • The fun has been lost.   We used to have fun posts about sightings of Michelin men and Mountain Dew and the like.   Now almost every post degrades into pages of off topic bickering

100% Truth.

In Red Pill, they had the noble concept of Men Going Their Own Way, where stoic hard-hearts would just wait the harridans out (while weightlifting).

Red Pill became like being a Libertarian -a contrarian fantasy that makes the believer feel good, but blows up when confronted by reality. It's hilarious to Venn diagram MAGA, Red Pill, and Libertarianism - the copium is strong.

Men could not really bear to go their own way, at least not without looking over their shoulders every 5 minutes.

The person who needs sex/affection less can negotiate harder. That is very seldom the man.

A long time ago I spent a year in Antactica on a base that had 90 men and 2 females over summer, and I learned a lot about how men become fools just to be around women. I also learned that some women love being queen bee and some women find it too much and hide. All good life lessons.

In winter we had 11 men and no women for 8 months. I was fine because I wasn't in a relationship back home, so didn't miss anyone, but the guys that were did it hard, very hard. I consider myself to have been fortunate not to have been in a relationship then, considering how much I missed my Thai wife when I had to spend half the year away from her.

Can men get by without women,? Yes if they have to, but not happily, IMO.

It's an interesting tale. I remember Rob Muir's posts and he had a very different style to Yinn so if he was Yinn I applaud his versatility. I think he posted about thai music sometimes which was Yinn's thing. Rumak said he met her and posted a photo but may have been having a laugh.

A couple of years ago when there was a mass exodus to a different site I had a look and the Yinn posts seemed to continue to be fairly passionate about politics, treatment of women, Thai music and Thai history. Would seem a bit bizarre to keep up such a charade over multiple sites for multiple years for no apparent gain or benefit. The broken english did seem a bit convoluted but some said it is normal for a Thai to be like that.

I'm puzzled about the Yinn thing. I've been on the forum for a very long time but have only a vague recollection of any poster by that name, yet they seem to have been quite controversial. Which subforum did s/he lurk on?

I remember a female mod ( but not the username ) that jumped up and down whenever western women were disparaged, but allowed any slander against Thai females. I was happy when s/he vanished.

Almost extensively in the Pub. There is still a pinned topic on Thai Music that carries that name in the Pub. On reflection, not where you would expect a female to be so prominent.

Maybe you put 'her' on your 'ignore' list. Fair chance.

The biggest problem i see is the "news team" whoever they are miss all the interesting news.

So much stuff going on in Thailand but you dont see it here, and if you do it is days later.

It looks like not a single staff member actually reads the news in Thailand?? Nobody can read Thai in a thai based forum????

Also it seems everyone is obsessed with Thai prostitutes.

I posted two topics recently.

1) Dan recommends dont have a Pattaya hooker as a girlfriend. 400 replies

2) Ten ways to be a successful business man in Thailand  10 replies.

I’m very happy to read that Yinn was fake.

Also Proton states that in his 25 years of reading forums, we always accuse Thai women posters of being fake?  That has not been my experience at all.

Are you not contradicting yourself?

It would be good to have more Thai females on this forum. They would have more interesting stuff to hear about and a deeper knowledge of thailnd than western women have.

I was of the opinion at the time that the convoluted Thai was contrived, a western speaker trying to write Like a Thai but was always let down by the inconsistency of Thalish with  the occasional precise English grammar structure not normal for second language learners / speakers.

My opinion hasn't changed, but can't be bothered back-tracking into past posts to review my thoughts.

No, I don’t think I am.  I probably should have made my point more directly.  Proton was the one who claimed he met Yinn on this thread.  He  also made the statement that we always accuse Thai posters of being fake.  I feel that is not true, so is he lying?  He seems to know a lot about Thai music based on his statements.  I am not familiar with this newer poster, but could he be the prior person who was pretending to be Yinn?

Maybe you've just grown out of it,  i.e. the forum hasn't changed that much, you have; just a thought.

ahh. Perhaps, but i dont believe proton can read Thai?

Yinn obviuosly could, she prooved that many times.

I am still leaning towards Yinn being real, if she wasnt the farang must have been a genius.

Too bad so many people were rude and unfriendly to her, she contributed more accurate information than most and was extremely popular.

Other way around ! Shame she/he couldn't follow the forum rules and stop abusing people despite being given an enormous amount of leeway.

Now,can we please drop the subject !

Oh for FS stop acting like kids both of you!!  There is nothing that I hate more than when 2 posters start their own 'handbags at dawn' bickering in the middle of an unrelated thread.  Why don't you both start a new thread ('why I don't agree with you') and leave this thread for relevant conversation?

Great post.

1) Cost of living has been going up. People can't spend like they used to so they don't do much. And so they have nothing to talk about, they are bored and they talk nonsense just to get a sense of something. It's a pretty miserable area we are living in.

2) Polarization and radicalism have become the norm thanks to the internet. Information overload is driving people nuts.

3) The moderation doctrine on this forum sucks. Censoring "bad words" and banning people is just moronic and doesn't work. I'm the living proof o it. I swear all the time, I've been banned so many time I've stopped counting and yet I'm still there with a couple of backup accounts lined up just in case. This hygienist approach is bound to fail.

4) Thailand attract mostly poor westerners and life hasn't been very kind to them for the last couple of decades. There is no denying mental health is a massive issue in LoS expat community. Those people will post garbage most of the time just to feel they somehow exist in the eyes of others. Sad but our moronic capitalist society is to blame for that, not them.

5) The expat community is ageing. I see less and less young expats. Young travelers yes but not willing to come live here. Anyways. Old people tend to be boring. They talk about their health problem, their house, their car, their village for those in Isaan, dumb news like a f%cking roadblock that nobody cares about, etc... Pretty boring stuff. So of course those in need of action are going to start posting sh$t just to get stimulated a bit.

6) Thai people have changed. No more "sabai, sabai". It's all about the money now. It's understandable but it makes genuine human interaction harder and shared adventures harder. No wonder people on this forum trash Thais all the time. They don't even know them because our two communities drifted apart since... well since the internet I think.

7) Forums in general are outdated mediums. People used to go on forums to find information. Nowadays you don't really need to do that. If I need something I ask Google or ChatGPT and I get what I need straight away (not to mention the ever growing stock of videos about Thailand out there).

Anyways. Things change. To be honest I find it pretty amazing that a website like AN is still open and able to find sources of revenues. Especially taking into account that the company uses multichannel presence very poorly. I mean it could simply be a Discord server coupled with social medias, a youtube channel and a spotify podcast at this point.

Nah. No worries. Only windows with bars on them :))

Regarding expat mental issues ...

You're crazy if you don't have mental issues after enduring the last few years in Thailand.
