Not in our village they don't. We have 3 outlets and they all stick to the rules.

Mine obliges with a smile, as long as I put it in a tote bag

Amazing Thailand it's only one day

No it's not only one day - it's actually 5 "Buddha" Days every year when the sale of alcohol is banned. That's in addition to  the bans when there are elections!

Welcome to "Even More Amazing Thailand"

Does it matter... it doesn't change any part of my observation.

It's an honest question!

Many days through the year. Thought they would’ve moved on from this by now. People still drink, at home or otherwise. It doesn’t do the tourism sector any favours. Never mind; their country, their rules.

How well do you know Thailand?

Oh no... half the posters on here will not be affected because they don't live in Thailand... half of the remaining half hopefully can plan ahead so they don't get the dt's.

I don't live there any more...but I did live there for 20 years. I sort of resigned myself to it, and would buy some beer beforehand. As people used to say, can't you go for one day without going out for a drink!?

Also should bear in mind that there used to be more bar closure days in the past. The King's birthday was, until he commented that he wanted people to have a good time. Constitution Day was another (Chakri Day also?)? Now it's only really Buddha days or election days.

Is Thailand the only country in the world that has alcohol (selling) free days due to religion ?

I think there a few in India or they was, plus ghandi's birthday 2nd October

Those that want to abstain from alcohol on this day or the preceeding 3 months have done so. Don't inflict religious beliefs and restrictions on everyone. Not all Thais believe in Buddhism these days and many of those that do will be drinking as usual.

How did you work that statistic out?

I was at the WSB races in 2019 and there was an alcohol-free day due to an election. No booze in Buriram town but the track obviously had an exemption - unfortunately only Chang due to sponsorship.

Yes. I didn't think of that. Great publicity for Thailand all because of the consevative, religious minority.

Big deal, just buy it the day before. You're not banned from drinking it.

Do you think it will be ok if i carry a box or 2 into the race track on sunday ?

Don't know how they tie consumption of alcohol with religion. However it would be better to have a no-scams day instead, I think this would be more in-keeping with religion, although I'm not to sure why?

555, and the next rule: no prostitutes day!

Since I have to go to immigration tomorrow, might as well make good use of the day out of the office and stock up 🙂

I'd say you are in the former category!

Again... does it matter so much to you where I fall in the spectrum as to negate what I said... I think that you are the one with a problem... stock up

Why is it relevant... and it is not an honest question... it comes from one of my named Hateful 8 and is asked by him hoping to disparage me in some way... I'm sorry that my answer would disappoint him in that regard.
