If the Buddha figure was within the tree trunk, it wasn't "unearthed".  Untrunked, or unboled possibly.  Definitely not "unearthed".

When I first read it, I thought they had dug it up under a mango tree, not inside the tree.

In the process of cutting down the approximately 80 centimetres wide and 10 metre tall mango tree, the tree fell, and as it was being sawed into pieces, the workmen discovered a green Buddha statue nestled within the trunk. The smiling statue was promptly removed and is now being venerated at the temple.

A buddhist abbot orders an old and tall tree to be cut down ... he should have shown a little empathy to such an old tree and let it live .

Buddhism is not teaching this .

Buddhist monks are not all followers of the teachings of Buddha .

Respect of life in all it's forms .

No destruction or killing .
