Popular Post snoop1130
The government has confirmed that the country’s nightlife will be able to remain open until 4am, starting from the New Year holiday period. The decision was announced by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday. The extended hours are part of PM Srettha Thavisin’s bid to boost the economy and tourism in the kingdom. According to Anutin, bars and nightclubs in certain areas will be allowed to remain open until 4am over the New Year holiday period. The minister adds that the extended opening hours will eventually be rolled out across the country, but will begin in popular tourism destinations, including Phuket, Bangkok and Chiang Mai (we figure Pattaya will also be included in the initial list). Neither will it harm the economy. Lots of tourists visit Thailand and Thailand relies a lot on that tourism - Doing as much as possible to accommodate all visitors is a sensible thing.... Of course, not everyone wants to be out late, but quite a lot of visitors do and accommodating that in lisenced area's doesn't hurt. Thailand just needs to sort a few more things out such as removing dual pricing, sorting out the hassle with beach vendor,s deck-chair operators, jet-ski scammers, taxi / tuk-tuk scammers etc... It all adds up to more repeat visitors and few more percentage points with GDP gained from tourism and that makes a difference. 5 1

Quite the exaggeration there... An extra two hours is going to cause the workers at late night venues to get stressed... What about all other other businesses that operate at night ? 2 2

You think people working in the late night entertainment industry are more stressed because the 'customers' use alcohol and drugs ? Will they get paid more for the extra hours ???... that could ease a financial burden and generate less stress. Or... it may give late night staff (restaurants / hotel staff / shift workers etc) an outlet to enjoy themselves. There are so many variables... looking at this matter though the singular lens of negative myopia shown above is perhaps 'brainless'. 2 2

Research is not exactly clear on this - but here's some interesting reading - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9545209/ In particular "Extensions in closing hours in populous municipalities decrease accidents, whereas the opposite is true for rural municipalities"
Popular Post expat_4_life
I propose new hotel regulations to accompany the bars open late, if they are open until 4am legally a lot of "tourists" won't get home until sunrise. Hotels should change checkout times accordingly allowing them to sleep it off. Regulate new checkout times of 3pm. 😎 1

PingRoundTheWorld
Good news for Bangkok. For Phuket and Pattaya this is kind of pointless and they've never stuck to the wet blanket 2am rule anyway.

JemJem
That is good news. Well, I am way past my clubbing years. But who knows, I might hang out till 3 or 4, not at a club but at a pub or bar a few times. Also, it will be good for tourism and also for locals and foreign residents to enjoy nightlife more. So as it stands... many of my Thai friends go out at 10pm find something to eat then go to a bar and finish 2am at closing now they will go out closer to midnight then find a bar until possibly 2am-3am as most have education or work in the morning.... tourists will like the extension for flexibility, but that doesn't always equate to more spending.. they just adjust their hours.

I imagine that most of us here - well me anyway - did not go out drinking and partying to 4 am as they were sensible with the money that has allowed them to retire here in Thailand ! This is aimed at those who never want to own a house, have a good pension, a house and retire early ! 1 1
