On November 10, 2023, at 4:00 PM, a major multi-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 304, Chachoengsao-Kabin Buri route, near the entrance to Phanom Sarakham Hospital. The incident involved six severely damaged vehicles and resulted in twelve people injured, all of whom were transported to Phanom Sarakham Hospital.

The accident was triggered when a bronze Toyota sedan, with the license plate กน-4348 Chachoengsao, attempted a sudden U-turn, cutting across the path of an oncoming pickup truck. This led to a catastrophic pile-up involving five additional vehicles, reported Siam Rath.

Among these were a black Hyundai H1 van, license plate ฮล-8591 Bangkok, and a red pickup truck with stainless steel cages, carrying a large quantity of chicken parts (thighs, wings, breasts), license plate 2ฒร-2884 Bangkok, both of which were found in a mangled state.

Additionally, a Chevrolet sedan, grey, license plate กง-4546 Loei, and a bronze Toyota pickup, Pre-Runner model, license plate บบ-9099 Chachoengsao, were among the damaged vehicles. The rear of the Hyundai van was hit by another Toyota pickup, a four-door model in bronze with a logo of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), license plate 2ขฒ-5057 Bangkok.

The accident resulted in 12 casualties, including eight men and four women, mostly suffering from minor injuries. One person, the driver of the initial Toyota sedan, was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by the Phanom Sarakham volunteer rescue unit.

Thankfully, the injuries sustained were not critical. Moreover, the collision also resulted in damage to a pair of street lamps.

According to accounts from those who witnessed the event, the chain reaction of the accident was initiated when the leading sedan made a sudden maneuver to execute a U-turn. This unexpected move forced an ensuing pickup truck to veer off its path, triggering a series of collisions that led to the extensive pile-up.

Well, at least they said the guy was making a U-turn that caused the accident otherwise usually tires have great excuses the brakes failed the tire exploded. TIT.

Looks like speed was the factor once again, but no mention of that, where were the police presence, speed cameras, etc etc, plus, no doubt the wet weather played a part which Thai's from my experience tend to pick up speed when it's raining.

Fortunately no one has died, yet.

But only yesterday the RTP bought new high viz vests to ‘ensure safety ‘. What went wrong ?

Pattaya only. However, the reflected glare may have dazzled the accident drivers.

Instead of braking they always swerve into the adjacent lane to avoid, regardless of other vehicles in that lane.

Does a Asean now reader benifit anything in knowing the registration plate number of a vehicle ?

Yes, when buying a used car, you can google plate numbers for those cars that have never been in an accident, and if anything like this comes up, avoid them like plague. Seen some that looked amazing, claimed the same, but a search of plate number found a woman paralysed after a head-on collision with a pickup overtaking a truck and slamming into her. Photos showed that car was completely smashed up in the front but somehow "fixed" to look like new to the point guy who does inspections couldn't find anything wrong with it... And anyway it's the information original articles publish, AN simply copies first few paragraphs, usually.

304 - once stated as the most dangerous road in Thailand.  But as is clear form the state of the cars in the photos - its not the road, its the drivers and the speed.  This is in a built up area - what speed were they doing to annihilate that Chevvy? Nothing gets better and it never will as long as the police continue doing what they do (very little).

My wife will write all the numbers down on paper, fold them into squares, put them in a basket and try to get the cat to knock one out, then she will try to buy lottery tickets with those numbers
