when you ask a bar girl in thailand what line of work they are in, or ask them straight out if they are a prostitute, they get very offended.

you are working in a bar, any bloke can take you to his hotel for a fee,

I imagine some of the monger people here would not like it if people in mixed company asked them if that is their hobby. Ladies of the night have feelings. Monger people it is assumed have feelings. One assumes both respective types may prefer to keep it separate from their day to day normal lives. Why? Because sex is complicated as much as some here would prefer it was otherwise.

Isn't this just common sense?  Of course bargirls and barboys prostitute themselves, but why would they want to be reminded of this by one of their punters?  It must be horrible enough sleeping with most of their customers!

But we aren't talking about publicly shaming the women. 

 

You could call them a prostitute in private - by private message even, for example, not even face-to-face - and they'd still not like being labelled as that.

Not if you're a regular user.  But in the normal world I expect many would prefer to 'deny' it if their daughter/girlfriend/wife is working as a prostitute.

I think more likely the biggest denial is probably not from the female, but the male who likes to tell himself he wasn't paying for sex!

 

they probably want sad people like the OP to feel less pathetic about having to resort to paying for sex, so they keep up the premise. indeed many guys paying for the services of a prostitute refuse to accept or admit they are with a sex worker/prostitute, they honestly believe the girl/guy is with them because they actually like them. to such people i say one thing; stop paying and see how long they hang around.
