Brutal Pit Bull Attack Shocks Community; Victim Succumbs to Injuries

In an alarming incident that transpired within the serene vicinity of Ban Pa Mued Rungcharoen, Soi 23, Tambon Wiang Phang Kham, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai, two unrestrained pit bulls unleashed a violent assault on a 64-year-old man with a disability.

 

The victim, identified as Mr. Thong Mai Sung, a person who had experienced the loss of his right leg, tragically succumbed to the ferocious attack, eliciting a profound sense of dismay and sorrow within the community, according to a Thai Rath report.

 

Dated December 21, 2023, local journalists recounted the brutal incident, uncovering the pit bulls' escape from confinement, leading to a relentless assault on Mr. Thong as he grappled with his crutches near his residence.

 

Eyewitnesses vividly portrayed the harrowing scene, detailing the dogs' ruthless aggression towards Mr. Thong's throat, inflicting severe injuries that resulted in excessive bleeding and ultimately claimed his life on December 20.

 

The aftermath of this incident has instilled fear and unease among residents, given the pit bulls' prior history of attacking and fatally injuring other animals in the neighborhood.

 

A growing chorus advocating for responsible ownership of such aggressive breeds is resonating throughout the community, with some voices urging the owners to consider relocating the pit bulls to ensure the safety of residents who harbor apprehensions about venturing into the Soi.

This and other aggressive breeds of dogs should be banned. Tine for things to change, and the police to go shot off all the killing machines. Owned or not owned, they shall all have a shot i the head.

I suggest putting this foul, ugly, nasty, vicious beast down within the next 24 hours. And as for the soi dogs, the real solution is massive, nationwide culling. These are mangy creatures, leading desperate lives. Show some nerve and compassion and take them out of the misery. Clean up the streets! People get so sensitive about soi dogs, yet they do not hesitate to encourage the killing of pigs, cows and other animals for their own enjoyment and consumption. Isn't there a bit of hypocrisy there? If you eat animals, you are responsible for their slaughter. At least one can make an argument that the animals they eat serve a function. That argument cannot be made about the mangy, diseased, pestilent, sad, forlorn, abandoned soi dogs. They lead lives of desperation.

 

If you must, carry pepper spray, or a can of insect spray. Nearly all creatures hate insect spray, as they cannot handle the smell. A long strong bamboo staff also helps. If nothing else works, culling is a good practice. I have done it a few times. I do not want a lecture about animal cruelty. . Most soi dogs are a nuisance. Most are mangy, some are disease ridden, many are hungry, tired, and lead terrible lives of desperation. Some attack people, some terrorize neighborhoods. Many harass the domestic dogs, and cause them to bark all night long, like in my neighborhood. Nobody wants to do anything about it. Culling is the answer. If they found a budget for it, they could do it Western style. Round up the dogs, clean them up, vaccinate them, and put them up for adoption. The ones who are not adopted after 60 days are simply put down. Nothing cruel about it. Not doing something like this, is both cruel to the dogs and to the neighborhoods they infest. The fact that when bitten, you don't know if the dog has been vaccinated, or not. So, you must get treated at a hospital, anyway. And the cost of treatment is up to 20,000 baht for a series of rabies and other shots. And that assumes it was a light bite and no other injuries occurred. Many of these soi dogs are insane and true desperados. The average dog bite cost alot money. A series of rabies shots, etc. And that is assuming someone was not hurt badly, like a small child. So, we should prioritize the health of mangy, miserable soi dogs over the well being of the human population?

If you love them show some commitment and adopt a few. Otherwise, let's get rid of them. Rabies is an epidemic here. They shut down the economy for covid. They don't shut down the highways due to traffic deaths, and they don't do anything about the soi dog tragedy and dangers. Already in 2018, there have been nearly 500 rabies cases reported, which is a significant increase over the 160 reported last year for the same period. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) estimates that Thailand has 10 million stray dogs, with 1 in 10 dogs in Bangkok suspected to be infected with rabies.

This must be 4 or 5 times this has happened now,  I will say the same thing again,  kill the dogs, lock up the owner,  take everything from the owner and give to the victims family,  these are literally killing machines,  they don't belong on this planet,  and to everyone who owns one of these creatures.  You should be absolutely crazy in the head, do you really believe if they are trained correctly they won't attack people,???   Wrong it's the animal instinct in them, ban them once and for all, and fine people who own one,

i have 2 pitbulls, big loving teddy bears but they hate badly dressed men, rubbish collectors and anyone else who looks “dirty”

 

As such I always make sure they can not get to any people, over 10 years and not once they got out 

 

it is extremely tragic and horrendous to have seen the attack because their power is insane but again, dogs were raised by a human who failed to provide safety for others and have no control over dogs. 
 

where I live, all neighbors are scared of my dogs but at the same time love them because once I moved in all theft and robberies have stopped.

 

dogs know all the neighbors but make noise when a stranger comes around. Theft and break ins are  0 for years

dogs are not bred or born to kill but poorly raised and taught. A Labrador can kill you if it attacks . Pitbulls are very very strong dogs

Yeah, dog like that need a strong willed, knowledgeable owner. And they take more care (exercise, for example) than your 'regular' dog.

 

Was never keen on pit bulls, though - can't get what's on their minds sometimes. We did have GSD's, a boxer and a huge mongrel. The current one is just a cutey - fits nicely with our current energy level. Even so, when strangers enter the property - she's always leashed, and we warn people not to just go and pet her or something.

 

The owner of the dogs is definitely responsible, no matter how they 'escaped'. The dogs....I dunno, maybe they can be put to use guarding some prison or army base.

They might be - but it's extremely unlikely you'll do anything.

You do not have a tiger, trained or otherwise.

 

Also, a tiger will require a special permit.

Countries should implement total bans on certain breeds. Any Pitt Bull, or other, that is identified within the borders is put down, systematically, ruthlessly. There are enough nice [mostly] peaceful pets around to keep us  company.

Enough to make it paid permit thing, including show of proper facilities etc.

That would cut out most owners who can't handle them, and would make them less common.
