Good on ya Britscot ! But of course those who seldomly post on this forum know  nothing compared to the naysayers who post vitriol here about everything every day. But it does make for good entertainment if one is able to laugh at those with a self imposed sense of superiority.

Yes. I agree. The Generals strongarmed their way into polital power and manipulated the law and judiciary to the detriment of not only the elected politicians, but every Thai citizen. And, whether you realise it or not, that overbearing self serving power base is still alive and well!

In Thailand there's a fine line between corruption & incompetence. The latter opens up pathways for the former.

 

In any case, when Yingluck returns home she will be warmly welcomed by many many Thais (including some who never voted for her). Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

I don't remember the details and I don't really want to think too much about it.

As far as I remember the rice scheme was promoted to bring money to the poor farmers. And that is obviously one of those reasons those farmers voted for her.

But it was obvious that lots of middlemen make huge amounts of profit. And rice was sold by politicians with huge profit margins. And then the warehouses which were supposed to be full of rice - but somehow that rice disappeared.

Did she plan all this? No. Did her big brother plan it? I am sure he planned at least some of it.

Was she as PM responsible? Yes.

Should any person (anywhere in this world) be a candidate for PM, to lead the country, without huge knowledge about what is going on and how politics work? She was incompetent. That was obvious. She should have never applied for the job.

But she did apply for the job, and she was responsible, and bad things happened while she was officially in charge. She was responsible and she should be made responsible. "I am sorry" is not good enough. And "I have no idea, I just did what my brother told me to do" is not much better.

2002 was when I first went to Thailand. Scuba diving instructor on Kow Tow then 2005 Bangkok as a Teacher when I first used the original Thai visa for teaching jobs and placing adverts for required teachers. Left after the first coup I experienced Mr T. Went back to thailand in 2010 built a house and then my second coup so experienced that mess till 2019 and left over the 400k/800k baht deposit as against my principles.  Over all those years I've dabbled with Thai visa and watched read and on occasion left comments. I also noticed the influx of accounts after the coup with very pro coup bad grammar accounts. I also noticed when you joined not that long ago.
