The self-proclaimed ‘anarcho-capitalist’ president is making his first overseas tour, even as he battles a major economic crisis at home

Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei praised free markets and slammed socialism at Davos during the first overseas tour for the self-proclaimed “anarcho-capitalist”, who is battling to fix a major economic crisis at home.

The trip marks a test for right-wing Milei, a relative political newcomer who took office last month after a rapid ascent from acid-tongued economist and television pundit to the presidency. He is keen to win backing for his economic ideas, which include shutting the central bank and adopting the dollar.

“Socialism is a phenomenon that creates poverty,” he said in a special address to a large and well-heeled crowd at the World Economic Forum, where he is later set to meet International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Kristalina Georgieva.

There is such as thing as a rational balance.

Brits love their National Health. Americans envy it.

Decent countries are a mix of capitalism and socialism.

Milei although I'm sympathetic to why Argentina went with him is a radical extremism.

It's hard to imagine his plans working without horrific consequences although doing nothing was already baseline horrible -- so some really bad choices there.

I guess what he understands as Socialism is not tantric enough for him! 😃

Strange stance for a country that nationalized the oil & gas industry back in the 60s.

Another swine getting his snout in the gov't trough.  IMO all governments have some kleptocracy going on, but Argentina, which was once an economic power, is noteworthy.

October 2001:  1 peso to US$1

June 2011:  4 pesos to US$1

January 2024:    820 pesos to US$1

He perhaps wants to hand it to his chums.

Privatized profits, socialized costs.

What’s not to understand?!

Milei knows what's up. Socialism is a scourge that benefits only the duplicitous elites that push it. To borrow a quote, socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, the gospel of envy. It's inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. If humans are free, they are not equal. If they are equal, they are not free.

I am very envious of Argentina having a great leader like him. If only Britain had such a politician.

Viva Milei.

Like neoliberalism worked out just swell, turning those millionaires into billionaires, and the working class into the working poor.

The elites you simultaneously despise and support making off like bandits.

This guy keeps looking weirder with each photo posted.

Something not right about him.
