uttradit
Nan should rank high up the list. Like Chiang Mai 1978. It is better than most Thai cities. The women are quiet tall there. Roads are quiet and connections to Pua and Phrae are good. The main downside is limited nightlife. Didn't see any girly bars. Maybe a plus for some. Chiang Rai had plenty of those bars. Not sure about live music. 4 1

Similar to also nice and peaceful Loei there is not much to offer for foreigners in terms of large foreign community, restaurants with menu in English language and foreign orientated restaurants, pubs or bakeries. Both mentioned provinces have lovely landscapes and scenery. You will at least need a girlfriend or wife from there, otherwise life might be boring after a while.

But you are right not much to do. Chiang Khan riverfront is rather good for walking and restaurants.

Life and happiness revolves around your family and property, other then going into town for food and supplies. Breaks are traveling to other locations that are of interest. 3 1

Wherever you live it's always nice to have a few trusted friends and a hobby to stop you going insane. I cycle too and sometimes go fishing. But do something, if you like music, play a guitar or another instrument. Keep away from the bars and daytime boozing.

Trat does get a lot of rain but the island not so much, and floods are very rare, only 3 times in the last 10 yrs to my recollection, but please stay away. 1

I made a choice a few years ago - between spending my time in resorts on a monthly basis - going here and there... but buying a resort style property was the wiser idea. All the comforts of home - we have a village home as well but the family enjoys coming here for a few days at a time and we have good help - this was a great choice for us and we go into the city w/ease whenever we want... Bee boppin' around town is for the young. As you get older you start living through others much more. Even older, you're watching the grandkids spin from that comfortable chair in the living room or on the porch. If single, you're gardening or taking care of the dog/cat or just watching TV all day and eating TV dinners. The world is more threatening now, not inviting like it once was. You're old. You're getting ready to come to terms with yourself and pass on. Pictures and family photo's all around you to put together like a huge jigsaw puzzle. Wills and other arrangements coming to completion. No worries. Everything coming together now... 2 1

Popular Post GypsyT
It's a very tough question. Thailand has nice vibe, smiling people and great inexpensive food. Cheap to live too. Thailand, even Pattaya and Jomtien, are very safe places 24/7. People, men and women, are sleeping on the beach. Try that in America! Maybe best to stay here? 1 1
