I recall when I was at school it was common for children to make up stories about teachers that they did not like.

True. I detest pedophiles more than any other criminal, but kids have certainly been known to lie.

I'd like to learn more about this guy and his relationship with the students. I find it challenging that this behaviour took place in the teacher's lounge and was unknown for several months.

Sick man, making the unfounded rumor worse.  Nine years ago, according t the Thai government in the BKK POST, child sex workers wee asked who their clients were (meaning someone n the government has a list) and they replied most "clients" were Cambodians...

Pedophiles do lasting damage to their victims.  Some become unable t trust another enough to love.

Nasty buggers.

Rightfully so!

Not only is the lynching mob out in full force, but some think shouting even louder than the mob will protect them when the chips are down.

It's an illness of the mind - and no number of pitchfork yielders such as many of the commentators here, or extreme treatment of the teacher as they suggest, will ever safeguard children in future. In fact it will drive the sick minded further into secrecy instead of confessing the tendencies and getting help before it's too late.

People of that illness need to be encouraged to get real about their issue, admit it and get treatment.  Same as paranoid schizophrenics - locking some up after the event doesn't stop the rest going on murderous rampages (witness the current case in U.K. where the guy did admit to police and go to seek help but didn't get it and then killed 3.)

Society needs to work with the realities  that these illnesses exist and do what it take to prevent rather than only crudely punish after the event.

Given the Thai police propensity for interrogating very enthusiastically, I suspect pretty much anyone would confess - particularly with a black plastic bag over their head*.

The article actual reads "Initially, the suspect reportedly confessed" which suggests that he may well have recanted his confession, even if the actual report is accurate.

* OK, Jirapong Thanapat didn't confess.  He simply died from suffocation.

Your buddy is guilty
