Community Elderly Man Abandoned by Children After They Say They Can No Longer Care for Him
Picture courtesy of Workpoint In a heartbreaking case that has sparked public concern, a 70-year-old man was found exhausted and alone at a bus stop after being abandoned by his three children, who claimed they could no longer care for him. Late at night on 1 May, residents of Pruksa 15 Village in Phraeksa Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province, alerted village officials after discovering an elderly man sitting wearily at a bus stop with a few personal belongings. Kanyadakorn, 53, the deputy chairwoman of the Pruksa 15 village committee, arrived to investigate and found the man, later identified as Mr Sanan, aged 70. Though visibly weak, he was able to speak. He told her that he had three children, one of whom, a daughter, had previously taken him in at her residence in the Uea-Arthorn 14 housing estate while working at the Bang Pu Industrial Estate. However, she and her siblings eventually said they could no longer afford to care for him. Mr Sanan explained that he had previously received support from local agencies but struggled to adjust to institutional care, feeling isolated and stifled. This led him to leave on foot without a clear destination. He walked over 20 kilometres from Supboonchai to the front of Pruksa 15 Village, reportedly crying as he walked, unsure where else to turn. Kanyadakorn, moved by his story, contacted Mr Sanan’s daughter using the information provided. The daughter, now relocated to Uthai Thani Province, said she earns just 300 baht a day as a casual labourer and is also responsible for raising three children. She said the siblings had tried to care for their father but found it financially impossible. Village officials have provided immediate assistance and have contacted relevant social services to ensure Mr Sanan receives the necessary care and support moving forward. The case has prompted renewed discussion about the responsibilities of families and the challenges of elderly care in modern Thai society. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-05-03. -

Is it worth it?
is it worth doing? Up to you, I am 3 years younger and for me decided it is not worth it.. Now have no top teeth left, the 1 tooth + 4 crowns and a bridge fell out, Dentist say only 2 options, Implants 200k for just top teeth or plastic plate 8,000 baht + 3 x pin removals + 1 x root @ 280 baht each. [Dentist advise remove 1 by 1 let heal before next removal] Funny not really a problem or getting used to it just cut everything much smaller 😀 so far had the broken root removed [took 2 months for that to heal] so will get around to getting the pins out sometime -
