Retirement visa and new passport

No such stamp is affixed to cancelled British passports. Instead cancellation is merely denoted by the top and bottom corners of the front cover being snipped off with a pair of scissors. Essential for @twozeds to ensure that this is done to his existing passport after renewal in the UK but before presentation with his new passport to IMM at BKK Arrivals upon his return.

NOR USD ones, just 2 holes punched thru the page with ur photo on it> ( cancelled in oct 2023)
just checked old ones and only the one issued in 86 and the one issued in 90 were stamped cancelled, holes punched and the edges of the page were cut as above

I am referring to a new passport obtained within the country - which with the requirement to have transfer made prior to any new immigration stamps was my concern with a passport obtained outside Thailand - you advised no issue using re-entry so that eased concern (that he might return and not be allowed entry on extension of stay) - but expect a notation of original visa entry information and last extension information will be required at some point, just as it is for replacement passports issued in Thailand.

" you advised no issue using re-entry so that eased concern (that he might return and not be allowed entry on extension of stay)".

It is against the rules to misquote, I made no such comment.

Sorry - indeed it was Liquorice post - and then you came back saying you had returned on new passport using a visa.

Original visa is the one on which the first extension is based

That is an incorrect response to what was asked. If you get a new passport in country the passport will be blank and you would need to get an entry stamp before applying for a first extension.

In 2014 I got a new passport via VFS which was blank and immigration put a stamp in my passport that indicated previous passport number, along with how and when I entered the country. They indicated I had entered by air and put a Savarnabhumi entry stamp alongside the large stamp, although I had entered by train via Padang Besar. That was then followed by the new extension stamp, there was no transfer of stamps per se, not even the under consideration stamp that applied to the new extension.

Recently I entered on new passport from UK and having an entry stamp marked Non O in the passport there was no need for immigration to say how and when I had entered. I only have an entry stamp, under consideration stamp and extension stamp, nothing else.

The OP was asking about coming back from the UK and I can only relate my experience, I wouldn't be aware of what some other offices may choose to do.

Apology acknowledged.

I responded to the OP who was aking about entering on a new passport. I have renewed my passport both ways and there is a significant difference between holding a blank passport and one with an entry stamp.

Hi everyone....just a quick update on this topic...I have re-entered Thailand with my new UK passport together with my old passport containing retirement visa and re- entry visa.....all good came through immigration no problems and received my 90 day stamp in the new passport. I will nip down to Jomtien immigration in a few days to ask about the subject:  if I need to transfer any stamps etc from my old passport just to get clarification on the matter.....Much appreciated all the answers you all gave to my original post....thank you

What do you actually have.

You mention 90 day stamp.

At a guess seems that you have  multiple entry Non O valid for one year.

Not an extension along with a reentry permit?

If you indeed have a multiple entry non O read first reply from Tod Daniels in this thread.

As per the post above, your entry makes no sense.

90 day entry would assume a multi-entry Non-O, and therefore no need for a re-entry permit.

Can't be a new Non-O as you would not have been able to purchase a re-entry permit.

Can't be an old Non-O as you would not be entitled to a 90 day entry, only the remaining days.

According to his first post, he has an extension of stay valid until Jan 31st 2025.

OP is confused, probably just counting Oct to Jan as 90 days.

He should have received an entry permit, permitting him to stay until 31st Jan.

Transferring stamps is an easy process.
Take both old and new passports.

They'll stamp details of your old passport (edited), the first entry on a Non O into Thailand, and the latest entry.

Hi....thanks for all your replies sorry for confusion when i said i received a "90 day stamp" i just meant that my retirement visa held up ok from my old passport  and i entered on a single re-entry visa...again sorry for my confusing choice of words.

I went down to Jomtien on Tuesday and filled in  the transfer form along with photocopies from my old passport and my new passport main page and entry stamp and everything went smoothly as I had been informed it would by members on here...went down yesterday (Wednesday) and picked up my passports with stamps transferred to new passport.

Thanks for all the advice given on here its much appreciated......One more question if I may add it on is:

I usually do my 90 day reporting online, which as worked well for me for the last 6 or 7 times...so i was wondering now my stamps have been transferred to new passport will I be able to fill in my new passport number on the online app and still get my 90 report as before or will I have to go in person for the first 90 day report with it being new passport. Anyone who has been in the same situation I would greatly appreciate your input and advice.....best regards

Discussed in this thread....

Note: no urgency to transfer stamps. In hindsight you could have waited till your 90 report window was open and do the transfer and TM47 with one visit.

Don't forget to update your bank with new pp.

I did that recently at Div 1  and had to get a bank statement and letter.

That is a new requirement to update your bankbook and provide photocopies of pages of bb back to application for current extension.

It was never required previously however is currently at CW.

Bank letter and statement is overkill.

A new requirement as part of what process?  Thanks!

@twozeds - and having updated your bank with your new passport details, you will then need to ensure that your phone's SIM card registration is aligned to the last 4 digits of your new passport number, for the reasons explained in this thread on the Banking forum:

https://aseannow.com/topic/1359645-does-your-sim-registration-and-bank-details-match/

For AIS SIM cards this will necessitate a trip to one of their shops. Presumably similar in the case of DTAC and True SIM cards?

To transfer stamps and visa info when someone does passport renewal.

As discussed in thread.

Yes, that does seem to be overkill! I hope Chonburi/Jomtien does not require bank stuff … yet!

In fact it's Jomtien that was pretty much only office that was requiring people to return to immigration with their bank book after extension retirement to check compliance.

Not that it was ever properly enforced.

Just another joke from rogue immigration office.

Good afternoon,

As I understand the op will enter Thailand with two valid passports. Hence we show the immigration officer firstly his old passport with re-entry permit and valid extension of stay. Then he will show his new passport. The officer will stamp him into Thailand on both.
