Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
I can see that if you're used to the UK and you're single or married to a Thai, 35-38,000 Baht per month may be challenging financially. If the pension stays the same for the next 10, 15, or 20+ years, then the situation for British pensions will become dire, especially if Thai Immigration changes the rules about how much money you must have. BUT, having said that, my Thai wife and I look after 26 rescued cats and we never go hungry, and we spend 10-11,000 Baht per month at the most. We grow some vegetables, we don't live in a city, we have a pickup truck, we don't pay rent, we don't drink alcohol or eat western food, or go out to restaurants or go for teeows (we can't anyway because we have to feed the cats twice a day). The cats live very well on mackerel & rice, dried food, and cat kanom. In short, if you adapt your life, you can manage living here on a state pension. -

Nice debate!
The purpose of spelling and syntax in written language is to convey meaning and ideas as accurately as possible, guessing should play no part in the process even if, "it is are not raining here also," can be understood. Ignoring accepted rules shows carelessness and a lack of conviction in what you are trying to convey. -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
When they give you any increase of course if it takes you above £12,571 pa 20% of it will immediately be gone on tax so next years rise if you do happen to get full pension it will be approx. £6.92 pw or near to zero because Keir and Rachel have already mugged you of your winter fuel allowance. So next Aprils rise is near worthless anyway . -

School Bus Fire Claims Multiple Lives and Injures Young Students in Rangsit
Apathy at almost every facet of the culture here… … it’s a double edged sword - it’s what makes Thailand a chilled place to be without jobswoths picking up on every small details, some called it more free & enjoy the absence of the ‘nanny state’ (as they call it) - but the tragedies are the consequence of ‘a non-nanny state’. -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
I have a small private pension due to me when I reach 65, I receive a statement/ projection annually there is also normally a form attached which can be used to inform them who will be the beneficiary of any benefits due if I die before 65. I recently filled it out naming my missis as the sole beneficiary of any such benefits Their reply astonished me , apparently I cannot rely on the nomination of my misses to be honoured . It is not my place to make such "demands", the decision rests with the pension funds trustees. How messed up is that? Next move when i eventually return to the UK is to cash it it in , take the money and run seems to now be the best option -

Thai students brutally abused by soldiers in behaviour modification camp
Parents and guardians of students in Samut Prakan province near Bangkok are seeking justice after soldiers brutally abused students during a behaviour modification camp on military premises in Chon Buri province. Bangpleeratbamrung School in Samut Prakan sent 130 students to the behaviour modification camp after they violated school rules by smoking, fighting, engaging in altercations over romantic matters, arriving late to school, and more. The camp, operated by soldiers at Phra Maha Jetsadaratchao Camp in Sattahip district, Chon Buri, ran for three days and two nights, from 25 to 27 September, to correct the students’ negative behaviour. The brutal treatment at the camp came to light after the students returned home and shared their experiences with their parents and guardians. They reported that the soldiers at the camp kicked and slapped them. Some were forced to eat grass and rotten fruit, while others were given humiliating haircuts, which resulted in head injuries. One mother told Channel 7 that her 17 year old son was kicked in the back, leaving him struggling to breathe and causing him to have a seizure. Instead of helping the boy, the soldiers shouted vulgar insults at him. Another father disclosed that his 18 year old son was slapped for looking at the soldiers, while another guardian shared that his nephew was distressed after being kicked for dropping his bag. The nephew also complained that his family no longer loved him for allowing him to be tortured at the camp. Parents dissatisfied Students who attended the camp revealed to the media that one of their peers tried to defend others by asking the soldiers why they were being abused. This student did not receive an answer and was instead slapped in the face for questioning them. Families brought the matter to the school but the school denied the accusations, claiming the students were lying. The deputy headteacher even dared the families to sue the school if they had evidence and threatened to counter-sue, causing some families to drop their complaints. However, another group of guardians persisted and took legal action against the school and the military trainers. Their complaints led to an urgent meeting on September 30, attended by the head of the military trainers, teachers, the victims, and their guardians. The lead military trainer apologised to the families and promised to investigate the incident. The teachers and school directors also apologised to the families. The school director promised that no more students would be sent to military or behaviour modification camps and that alternative activities within the school would be arranged to avoid such violence. Channel 7 reported that many of the victims’ families were dissatisfied with the meeting’s outcome, as their children had suffered both physical and mental injuries. They called for a quicker investigation and greater accountability from the school. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Channel 7 Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-10-02 -

It does for certain types on the forum. "Gammon" is the term often bandied around for such a demographic. Yes, he certainly drew a lot of attention to the cause and still has the guitar. Might even be worth more now given the attention the story has got. Might make a good prop at a Trump rally, or put it in a glass display cabinet on the wall of the white house for when Trump takes residence for the second time. See how much publicity you can get for $4000.
