On Friday (Feb 23), a delegation led by Mr. Jane Namchaisiri, Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Industry, visited Prachuap Khiri Khan Province to evaluate the potential integration of Prachuap Port with the proposed $28-billion land bridge project.

This ambitious project aims to create a direct transportation link across Thailand’s narrow south, offering an alternative route for cargo ships that currently navigate the longer passage through the Malacca Strait and Singapore.

The visit, hosted at the facilities of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI) in Bang Saphan District, one of Thailand’s leading steel producers, included assessments of the logistics, deep-sea port, and steel industries. Mr. Kittiphong Sukphakulkul, Deputy Provincial Governor, represented the provincial leadership and, along with executives from Sahaviriya, showcased the capabilities of Prachuap Port.

Prachuap Port, operated by Prachuap Port Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Sahaviriya, boasts four berths that can accommodate both international sea-going and coastal transport vessels.

I would have thought it's too far north.

The isthmus is 90km wide as opposed to about 70km at Ranong.

There's also the minor issue of there being another country in the way.

You are right, could it have anything to do with mountain ridges in the way?

China doesn't care about different countries, it is all China in their longer plans.

But can it handle multiple supertankers and high-volume container ships?

They can smell the money....

The landbridge is already a stupid decision and now they want to move one port up about 80 km?!

They really are stupid. I dont know who calculated all, but it will never be worthwhile.

What is everybody thinking? It will cost billions (Baht) and more billions to create, then operating and then maintenance !

You have 2 ports to be built, coming with cranes, power plants and so on. Evergreen Ace is only 400 meters long and 62 meters wide. Making a lane for the ships to come in and out again.

All think as we can make SiIk route train, we can do landbridge, but economical?

Yha ok also the big containers ships are and were build and seems up to now, economical.?

Thailand isnt that well in maintenance., well they must change their ways then.

"My country" made a train track. estimated  to built 1,37 billion Euro, some years later they already past 6 billion and still not done, as a whole new safety system had to be made. It is running now, but it runs with 100dreds of millions loss.

Well done.

And Thailand want to go that way either?!
