Believe me, on Phuket there is currently little more newsworthy than this, with so many prominent figures now having taken public positions. One could discuss, if this will go too far for the actual crime committed, for example the local chief of immigration has already publicly stated that the Swiss guy will be deported if found guilty of this assault. This is quite the heavy opening gambit, isn't it? He is simply toast, or in the best scenario will be a lot poorer after this when the dust has settled (that it might go in this direction is suggested by the statement of the doctor, that she will spend all money of any settlement to "beach beautification" on Phuket, which will spread the love locally; a very artful Thai solution, mehinks). 1 1

Well, after reading that lot, it seems the bloke is on a very sticky wicket. He will most definitely be robbed of his envisaged hi-so position, and probably cost him a lot of money not to be chucked out of the country. Why do you think thais are different from us? If there where no regulations and laws heavily practiced where we came from, where would we had been? I remember when I grew up, I drove motorbikes and cars since I was 12, Thailand will follow and clean up, be more civilized to the boring, dont worry, their time coming sooner than later. Paris333
No apologize not imploring forgiveness should be applied to European (Switzerland) citizen. Thais citizens arent "bus class" subordinate citizens and this lesson should be applied to everyone. Because you are come from a rich European micro-State country (thanks to drug cartel) it doesnt mean your are authorized to imply authoritarian behaviour not only to a Thai scientist civilian but also to everyone. If Thai lady doctor did the same against you in Switzerland "paradise" (thanks to drug cartel) what did the Federal of Switzerland implement against her? I am confused and I dont figure it out what is the motivation for such horrible unaccceptable behaviour mainly against a lady? Thai Authorities should implement "a criminal record" for such "civilized gentlemen" which makes international travel very difficult because most countries try to protect their citizens from outside criminal activities. As a European citizen I bow my head and I apologize to the lady for my "compatriot" unacceptable stance. Individuals members of European Union are equals but we are not the same! (Switzerland - Liechtenstein - Monaco -San Marino the so called microstates belongs to E.U States but with specific status due to washing mashine black money drug cartel). Sometimes you have to have stand a bit on a distance to see things better If you watch the TV news, and I do not advise that you do, they went full nutto on it yesterday morning. However almost nothing on the mass killing at the Ubon concert. If you look at a English language newspaper which cannot be mentioned, nothing about Ubon shooting, that this morning. Appears the powers that be are whipping up things about the kicker, while they bury the Ubon shooting. Same MO used in that other shooting when the Thai media went full metal after the CNN news crew, who had done nothing wrong, btw. Certainly the Swiss man & his wife have done something wrong but really ... a kicking?! Distraction & deflection. It is the usual xenophobic and nationalist sensationalism that is used to bait and trigger weak-minded fools, not only in Thailand but in our home countries too. Here it reaches ridiculous extremities, as we are dealing with a largely under-educated and nationalist population that laps this stuff up. The Doctor's father has been mobilising his media connections, and he has played a blinder. The Swiss guy and his wife were just following the Thai way, surrounding themselves with and using local influential people to protect themselves and conduct business. This is how it is done in Thailand. You can't really blame him for this, or name-dropping his contacts when he got in a bit of bother, as that is how it works. Swiss guy is now receiving a lesson that these influential connections are just mealy-mouthed cowards that are, in fact, of no real use at all when the chips are down. A harsh lesson in Thai culture for him and his wife. 2

Grandpa Cool
I find it hard to fathom that there are apologists for this arogent and violent self entitled couple. My wife has been listening to Thai podcasts all day. This guy has a lot more unsavoury stories behind him, including abuse and guns. 1,000,000TB a month rent indicates a vast source of wealth. It will be interesting to learn what is the source of his cash flow. 1

As for the rest, common sense would dictate thais and foreigners alike should do each other no harm, but no nation is perfect and <deleted> come in many shades.
