Popular Post Jack West Jr Posted March 3, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 3, 2024 This unfortunate incident sums up what is so deeply wrong with this country and its government. On the one hand xenophobia and hatred towards foreigners is rife and on the other hand endemic problems are ignored . Internationally, anyone crossing a zebra path is sacrosanct . Irresponsible drivers that don't stop for pedestrians on such a crossing get huge fines or can have their licences revoked. However, that is not the case in Thailand where traffic rules are blatantly trampled all the time and police is conspicuous by its absence. So just keep on blaming foreigners for all societal ills and keep ignoring air, land and water pollution while mowing down innocent pedestrians. Not to mention the aggressive dogs everywhere. Way to go , Thailand ! 2 5 3

That said , I hope they can somehow trace the pick up driver using CCTV and bring him do justice. In Thailand you had better look both ways.,could be someone overtaking or just going on the right. 2 1

Sad, really. But, if you have ever been to China, in the countryside, then you will see many people, typically, walking in the middle of the road. Everyone knows this..... First and Last Day in Thailand turned out to be less than an auspicious day.
Popular Post Kiwimad Posted March 4, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 4, 2024 There is no mention that he came from the countryside at all ? Plus he was walking across the zebra crossing ! Not down the middle of the road 🙄 3 1

Bangkok Barry Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Will there be similar public anger and protests at the scene, as happened when a Swiss man kicked a woman in Phuket? Or as he was Chinese and the driver was probably Thai* it doesn't matter? *probably, based on the number of Thais compared to foreigners in Thailand. 1

soalbundy Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 He made the mistake of using a zebra crossing, it acts like a magnet for some drivers and you are easily seen. I've even seen police cars weaving around people crossing, nobody stops. 1

Including the police. People do it as they know they can with impunity. Same with any other law in Thailand. It is indeed lawless. 2 1 1 1

They don't convey right of way Exactly. But many pedestrians, including some on this thread, assume right of way and cross without looking. As a driver I see it all the time. I personally think it's insane how many people cross the road without looking and just trust drivers to stop for them. Most drivers nowadays are on their phones and don't see anything. 1
spidermike007 Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 That is some very bad luck. It takes a certain kind of cowardice, to mow someone down and flee the scene. I wonder who his parents are, and why they failed so miserably. 1 1
Popular Post HuaHinNew Posted March 4, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 4, 2024 Unfortunately, it's just another display of the madness of Thai driving culture. Many.... very many are maniacs on the roads, driving with excess speed, careless in their actions to reach their destinations, no respect for other drivers or pedestrians. Many have no situational awareness of their driving environment. Lack the basic understanding of the fundamental and principles of defensive driving. Continuous breaking of road rules in overtaking and undertaking, me think most would not even know of the road rule laws. Favorite pastime, running red lights, running Zebra crossings and accelerating off through Zebra crossing that are still displaying red. What do you expect when you see the inferior requirements and standards for acquiring a driver's license in this country. It is Mad Max combined with the Wild West every time you venture out as a driver, passenger or pedestrian onto the Thai road networks. It is a self-fulfilling outcome when you see the annual disastrous road statistics of accidents and deaths for Thailand. 2 1
actonion Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 At many traffic lights in the Pattaya area there is a designated Red area on the road for Bikes only to stop when waiting at the Red light, and other Vehicles seem to obey that rule as many Cars , Trucks, never enter that Red zone, but Cars, and Bikes, never seem to obey that rule when it comes to Pedestrian crossings, especially outside BIG C extra on Pattaya Klang
OldmanJ Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 The road rules in Thailand are nothing more than a laugh,%90÷ don't understand road safety or care but then again what rules, you can buy a license without doing a test or knowing how to drive. 1 1

A Thai guide said that the victim was among a group of Chinese tourists who arrived in Bangkok Friday morning and he led the group on a sight-seeing tour of Bangkok. The victim left his hotel room last night to buy something at a convenience store just across the road from his hotel. As he was returning to his hotel, a pickup truck, travelling at high speed and with its siren blaring, failed to stop, struck the victim on the crossing and drove off. EMTs soon arrived at the scene of the accident, administered CPR and used a defibrillator to try to save the life of the victim, but to no avail. He died at the scene. Witnesses say the truck driver later stopped at a nearby convenience store for a while and then drove away. Tourist police said that the pickup truck used a fake license plate. Popular Post Sydebolle Posted March 4, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 4, 2024 What a different approach to the very scary racist man hunt going on in Phuket with that Swiss fellow. Latter, being guilty - apply Thai law and corrective measures. If he is innocent, he better leaves Phuket all the while as the hatred vendetta against the dirty farang has reached a point of no return among the semi-divines - regretfully. Both incidents need to be addressed and, while the semi-divine authorities are at it, maybe the have a look at this very old stale soup of 2012 with the death of a police man on duty, whose name was Wichian Klanprasert. Vorayuth Yoovidhya, "Boss" and grandson of the Red Bull fellow, allegedly killed him with his fancy sports car. Never seen a legal bench, running around with valid passports all over the world and not even 40 years old today. If he would be innocent, why did he start a decade plus long runner with all his connections and family's money? Everyone is equal as per Thai law; I know that some are just a little more equal than .... the dirty farang, alien and other non-Thai underling minions 😞 How sad and regretfully shows the ugly nasty face of the Nation. 2 1

JimTripper Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Some people will speed up if you cross. I had that happen the other day. I had to jog to get across in time. It's people that have a lot of anger inside. It comes from bottling up emotions and acting all happy when you don't feel that way. 1
