Pattaya —A Thai construction worker sustained severe injuries after a construction site collapsed on her. The incident happened on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at 9:30 AM.

The Sawangburiboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation received a report about the collapse of a steel framework at a building under construction on Soi 5 near Pratumnak Road in South Pattaya today. They immediately rushed to the scene.

A Thai woman, identified as 53-year-old Ms. Wilaisak Longthong, was trapped beneath the wreckage. Both of her legs were pinned under the steel structure, sustaining severe injuries. The rescue team swiftly lifted the debris and administered initial first aid to Ms. Wilaisak before transporting her to Banglamung Hospital.

With the lack of strict construction laws and enforcement thereof, there's a lot of these types of accident you won't see as much in industrialized countries....

Not a single hard hat to be seen in that picture!

Laws of physics are understood in the industrialised countries.

The laws of physics are well understood here too. I've watched many steel fixers on a construction site walking over the rebar lattices they are tying together in light sandals. Of course, if you don't stand on an upward-pointed rebar, you don't get one through your foot or another part of your body if you lose balance and fall. Simple physics - watch where you're walking and don't ever lose balance.

I remember attending a Health and Safety briefing in Taiwan whilst outside the room, workers were washing a sloping roof over the car park with soap, no harnesses, wearing flip flops. The irony was not lost on me

And the laws of economics.. accidents cost them big-time.

Sounds tough that a 53 year old woman has to work on a construction site. Hope she recovers soon.

Yep that's why they can't drive round a curve without hitting a tree.

Safety costs everyday... accidents are less frequent.

It is likely accidents work out far cheaper here in non-industrialized countries.
