EC to Ask Court to Dissolve MFP

BANGKOK, March 12 (TNA) – The Election Commission meeting on Tuesday agrees to ask the Constitutional Court to dissolve the Move Forward Party.

 

The decision came after the court’s ruling that found the party and its former leader Pita Limjaroenrat guilty for campaigning to amend the royal insult law.

 

The Constitutional Court on Jan 31 ruled that the Move Forward party’s plan to amend Section 112 of the Criminal Code or the lese majeste law was tantamount to overthrow the democratic regime of the government with the King as the head of state.

Removing Section 112 has nothing to do with overthrowing the democratic regime of the government with the King as the head of state.

 

The UK has a democratic regime of government with the King as head of state without a Section 112.

A democratic government is way too complicated for Thai people, they are allowing a few non elected people to destroy their votes, its a real shame that Thailand will never have a truly elected government. its just pure corruption look at Thaskin as a prime example the guy should be locked up for a long time for what he has done to the thai people ordering the killing of people (PolPot comes to mind ), but nothing will change the thai people sub servant don't care  attitude.

Precisely! One has to wonder what the purpose of stressing the King's involvement in the democratic process is.  They wouldn't be using that in an attempt to gain support from the people..................would they?

Simply ludicrous The changes to 112 were about deweaponising the law. Not about overthrowing the monachy. However, facts will not stand in the way of the juntas legal system.

They'll run fresh elections and deny any offshoot of MFP the right to run. PT is in the firing line somewhere down the track. The military will not give up their power. No coincidence the move to disolve MFP (IMO this will happen) comes before the election of new senators.

Each time I read such things I think.......riots! And riots is exactly what would happen in most countries where any group tried to remove the democratic rights of the people. Imagine trying to do this in France?

 

Sadly, the Thai people seem totally resigned to the fact that the Military will always be in charge of the country and there's nothing they can do to change that. So sad.

I'm now starting to understand why the Thai government seems increasingly anti Westerner but pro Russian.  Both countries have a simlar type of 'Democracy'.

 

Thailand doesn't seem to have resorted to murdering its opposition parties yet - they just lock them up and ban them (at the moment).

I don't agree Thai people are sheep. I have 3000 plus Thais on my list I also know many personally, everyone will vote for the same persons or party MFP.

Charter Court asked to dissolve Move Forward party

 

 

Thailand’s Election Commission (EC) has decided unanimously to ask the Constitutional Court to dissolve the opposition Move Forward party, after finding sufficient evidence to believe that the party has attempted to overthrow Constitutional Monarchy, in accordance with Political Parties Act.

 

The EC’s move follows the Constitutional Court’s January  31st unanimous ruling that the Move Forward party and its then leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, were guilty of exercising their rights and liberties to overthrow the Constitutional Monarchy, through their proposed amendment of Section 112 of the Criminal Code, or the lèse majesté law, and continuous campaigning for the amendment bill.

 

Commenting on the Election Commission’s decision, Move Forward spokesman Parit Wacharasindhu told the media today that the party and its legal team have been preparing for this moment.

 

He asked the media not to jump to the conclusion that the party will be dissolved, saying that their legal team will defend the party and prove its innocence.

Election Commission Launches Move Forward Dissolution Bid

THE ELECTION COMMISSION today (Mar. 12) unanimously resolved to have the Move Forward dissolved by court on grounds of allegedly breaching the draconian lese majeste law.

 

The polling agency’s members made the unanimous decision to file a partisan dissolution lawsuit with the Constitutional Court against the Move Forward for allegedly violating the lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code.

 

That the Move Forward had earlier pushed for amendment to the lese majeste law was considered by the commissioners as tantamount to an undermining of rule, thus prompting them to seek dissolution of the progressive party.

 

If finally found guilty as charged, all members of the party’s executive board will be legally prohibited from political activity for a number of years.

We can't take the risk of any reform, or forward movement. We can't change the status quo. After all, that could affect the billions we are earning. Change is bad. Money is our God. 

 

We are not bothered that they won the election. We don't believe in democracy. It represents the people, after all.
