Village Head Apologises After Worker Falls to Death from Hay Truck in Buriram
Picture from responders. An incident occurred in Buriram province when a worker fell from the top of a hay-laden trailer, resulting in his death. The village head, who was driving the vehicle, was seen kneeling in apology beside the victim’s body. The incident took place on the evening of 11 January. Pol. Lt. Jirarot Mongkolthanasupat, an investigator at Nang Rong Police Station, received a report of a fatal fall in the Nong Song Subdistrict, Nang Rong District. Rescue personnel from the Siam Ruamjai Pu In Foundation were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred on a village road in Ban Khok Tako, Moo 9. The victim, identified as Mr. Jamlong 50, was found lying face down in a rice field. Upon examination, he was found to have suffered a broken neck and significant blood loss. Sitting nearby in a state of distress was Mr. Waradet 53, the village head of Moo 9, who repeatedly apologised to the deceased. Mr. Waradet explained that he and three workers, including the victim, had been collecting hay bales from a field. The hay bales were stacked on a trailer towed by a tractor, forming a pile approximately 4 metres high. The victim had chosen to sit atop the stack while the trailer was being driven to a storage facility nearby. As the group travelled slowly, another worker following behind on a motorcycle noticed the victim fall from the top of the stack and struck the ground. The worker immediately alerted Mr. Waradet, who stopped the vehicle and rushed back to find the victim unresponsive. The hay storage facility was only 100 metres away when the incident occurred. The police and rescue team arrived to examine the scene, and the victim’s body was later sent for further examination. Authorities are investigating the incident, with initial findings pointing to unsafe working practices. -- 2025-01-13 -

Pickup Truck Carrying Vegetables Crashes into Utility Pole in Korat: 1 Dead
Picture from responders. A pickup truck overloaded with vegetables lost control and crashed into a utility pole on the Chok Chai-Det Udom road in Nakhon Ratchasima province, leaving one dead and another seriously injured. The crash occurred at approximately 04:35 on 12 January. Rescue personnel from the Sawang Metta Foundation, Nong Bunnak branch, received a report of the incident and rushed to the scene near Nong Bunnak Subdistrict, Nong Bunnak District, in Korat. Upon arrival, the rescue team found a black Isuzu pickup truck (registration number from Nakhon Ratchasima) overturned by the roadside. The vehicle’s roof was damaged and crushed, with its rear cargo bed had detached from the chassis. A large quantity of fresh vegetables, including chillies, morning glory, cucumbers, and kale, was scattered across the area. A utility pole was also found broken from the impact. Trapped inside the vehicle were two individuals: the driver and a passenger. Using hydraulic rescue tools, rescuers managed to extract both men from the wreckage. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Mr Natthakorn Onbuakhao, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Mr Rachun Pongmee, 30, sustained critical injuries and was transported to Nong Bunnak Hospital for urgent medical attention. Police investigator Pol. Lt. Nukoon Petchking from Nong Bunnak Police Station conducted an initial investigation at the scene and believes that overloading was a factor in this crash. Authorities are working to confirm the cause of the crash and are gathering evidence for further investigation. -- 2025-01-13
