Opinion: What is Donald Trump's mental state?

What is Donald Trump's mental state? I direct the question primarily to those working in psychology, psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, etc., and prefer serious and professional answers. I don't work as a psychologist, but I've studied this for many, many years and have a great interest in the dark triad.

 

In my opinion, Donald Trump is a classic, standard, extroverted Narcissist. He may have traits of Psychopathy and Machiavellianism as some others have suggested, but these traits are then quite weak/latent, and I'll explain why.

 

If Donald were a psychopath, he wouldn't have been emotionally invested, wouldn't have shot himself in the foot time and time again, wouldn't have displayed irrational behavior, and wouldn't have been so "stupid" in his excuses. His behavior is not like that of a real psychopath. Let's say hypothetically that he was one: He would have been so good at keeping up appearances that no one would have suspected him. He would have behaved more like Biden or Obama (neither of whom are psychopaths) and played a role that allowed him to be liked and respected.

 

I can say straight away that real psychopaths would have felt insulted to be lumped together with Trump. He's far too impulsive, confirmation-seeking, and obvious in his actions. He may very well have psychopathic traits, but not nearly enough to warrant a diagnosis.

 

Machiavellian. The same goes here. He would have been much more strategic and cautious in his statements and excuses. A Machiavellian doesn't need to be psychopathic, narcissistic, or lacking in empathy, just very good at playing the political game, which he isn't.

 

Finally, the Narcissist. He shows very clear signs of being an extroverted/malignant narcissist. The extreme need for affirmation, his painted picture of himself, his appearance, and his traits, his incoherent gaslighting and catchphrases, his inability to understand when he has said something inappropriate, and above all - his impulsive and tone-deaf Twitter rants.

 

When he lost the election, there was extreme dissonance in his brain because reality didn't resonate with his inner worldview, and it happened in front of the whole world, all leaders, all the people he depends on for confirmation. He simply felt humiliated, especially when he failed to regain power. Think of a version of a narcissist who has been exposed at work or at home and then fails to manipulate his way back and loses everything.

 

A huge blow to the fragile ego built on subconscious insecurity and inferiority complex. The way he refused to admit Biden's victory and tried to change reality with his will indicates that he already lives in a fantasy and overestimates his abilities. His narcissistic ego simply couldn't handle losing and will probably now end up in a nervous breakdown or psychosis.

 

After this, he will recover as soon as he refills his attention and affirmation carafe. He will probably continue with his rants somewhere else and constantly criticize Biden and other politicians. He will never change. The only thing I can see is if the psychosis becomes so intense that he can't mentally come back, but I doubt this.

Somehow I don't think that sort are interested in posting on AN, though the posts of some persons certainly provide the mother lode for a psychology thesis.

 

I'm more interested in the psychology of those on here with TDS and consumed with hatred for a man that they don't know. I mean they are so obsessed with him so much that they just can't stop writing about him, even on threads with absolutely nothing to do with him. If I were going to do a study on the psychological aspect of Trump mania, it would be on the use of psychology to try and destroy Trump's image, by the very subtle and clever propaganda that is utilised against him.

 

Luckily for Trump, he appears to have a very thick skin, or else he really is a narcissist and loves the attention, regardless of for or against. He certainly appears to thrive on it.

I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that millions and millions of Americans that don't have TDS are right.  And millions of foreigners see through the lawfare travesty. Maybe they're on the right side of history.

 

Trumps foibles have played out in public, on TV and in the news for decades.

 

And each time they lay another bogus charge onto Trump, his numbers go up. Voters seeing through the nefarious treatment. Yet another indicator...

As part of my former job, I've had some training in human phycology, but you don't need qualifications to know that the assessment in the OP is spot on.

 

To me the real sickos, and I started voicing this opinion in 2015, are the senior members of his political party who catered to him in the pursuit of personal wealth and power. This, despite some also having personal bias against the man. They have only become more rabid and conniving as they've discovered their form of conservative government is unpopular with much of the younger generation of voters. Their hypocrisy and willingness to lie, cheat and site their gods to achieve this power is disgusting.

I don't really blame the massively stupid, costumed morons who turn up for the rallies. While their lack of even a basic form of intelligence can be amusing, they are a product of their leader's policies of keeping them ignorant and unable to form opinions of their own.

 

I don't think Biden should be running again either for different reasons. He was there for a specific purpose in 2020, but now is too old for another term. He seems selfless and genuinely working for the country, and has improved almost every aspect of the economy, despite the Right's conspiracies against him.

There is a low age qualification for Presidents. I think there should also be an upper limit, perhaps 70. This should also apply to the Judicial and House reps.

I think he is being looked at all wrong: this is reality entertainment.  Real Traitors of West Palm.  There are prizes along the way, like ratings and donations.  And oopsie, maybe a little jail time.  I think a lot of his supporters look at this as if it's a American Idol competition.
