There are a multitude of reasons why very few around the world have sympathy for the Russians. Those reasons are not limited to their serial killing, despot, thieving multi billionaire dictator for life. It is more about their nature, their history as ruthless, homicidal Cossack warriors, and their total lack of manners, and class. Not to mention the dignity, class, decency, civility, and social skills decades of Leninism, Stalinism, and now Putinism has stripped them of. 

 

Some observations on why Russians seem to be so grumpy, annoying and unhappy:

 

In one series of studies with Helena Slobodskaya, a psychologist at Novosibirsk State University Research Institute of Physiology and Basic Medicine, we found that mothers in Russia, compared to American caregivers, reported that their infants and toddlers were more likely to demonstrate negative emotions, such as anger or frustration. The Russian mothers also reported that their young children exhibited lower levels of positive emotional expression, including smiling and laughter.

Thailand has invited them in freely and without limitations, and they are now paying the price for this kind of foolish rush for quantity over quality. 

 

I just spent 3 days in a very nice hotel in Karon, Phuket. Most of the hotels other guests were Russian and what I observed backs up all that you say above!

In my crystal ball I see the visa free entry being revoked, extensions for longer term visas being refused, then followed by loads of them staying illegally.

 

Time will tell if I am correct.

Samui is now absolutely full of the same types weather Russian Ukrainian brit Aussie Israeli ext ect . Doesn't help that the bib here or on the other islands are the most corrupt going. Was told years ago (15 +) buy Aussie and pommie consulates ( embassy officials) that bophut police station the most corrupt they have to  deal within thailand. Wake up old samui expats (decent ones anyway) . This place is going same way as phuket.

I was in Tesco Lotus yesterday, and a Russian seemed to be complaining loudly that ONE apple that he had brought to the cash out till from the fruit and veg dept didn't have a price on it!

He's dressed no differently to thousands of other tourists here, which is why he would probably have gone unnnoticed had it not been for someone/his girlfriend reporting him to the police for assault  - "A woman scorned ......."!

There is a reason why Russia is so large but not strong enough to have military bases all over the world. So that is why they need to bully their neighbours. A classic whataboutist argument but American imperialism doesn't make Russian imperialism any more acceptable.
