Yes I agree , Just shows Again Who's running this country.

Thaksin  ,He's the Puppeteer who Makes the puppet PM  Dance.

He suppose to be in Jail . this shows how rotten this country is ,way down to the core.

Dude, and anyone else. Lets start with this premise. Absent you being raised Thai and Buddhist you know NOTHING about Thai society, or Thai social/political relationships. You can make all the assumptions and value judgments you want but you know nothing. NOTHING. As do I. And what may be obvious is unknowable for Westerners and unspeakable here.

You may have 20 years incountry and have a Thai wife and family but you still KNOW NOTHING. Because you arent Thai.

But in a complex arena where the rules and techniques of the players are UNKNOWABLE to the Western mind, its not just one player and one game plan.

When it all comes down to the bottom ;line, its all about the money. Cannabis, among other things, is money. So in evaluating the Thai tug of war over that issue, put your western assumptions aside and ask yourself, its it only about cannabis? Or is it more? Because all the parties want $$$, its just how they get there.

So analyze the issue by considering everyhting that we are aware of by way of press and our minimal knowledge from just being here or alive.

The aging, health and capabilites of important folk.

Chinese tourism has declined

Macao isnt making it anymore.

The Middle East wants to Invest its cash.

Casinos

The "canal"

Crackdowns on gambling and influential people.

The relationship between local people, police and influential people. In that regard, for context knowledge, please study Tammany Hall or Cicero, IL in during US prohibition.

The return of the Thaksins and other important folk.

The fuedal nature of political relationships in Isaan and rural Thailand.

The nature of Thai rural poverty

The historical and presnt day shifting familial alliances between Tai, Chinese, Lanna, Mon.

The great Police fight.

The Prime Ministers Background

China

China

China

The Thais have been dancing on the world stage holding hands with one, then holding hands with another, all the time making money and developing their country into an SE Asian powerhouse. The Chinese have been a recent dance partner, but the next dancer is the USA, like it was in the days of the Viet Nam war.

And it isnt reefer madness.

Cannabis is illegal in Cambodia. One of the best restaurants I know buys ditch weed for about 50 cents a gram and sell it to the tourists at $5 for a half gram joint so they can enjoy with their dinner. Thats why its never going to be illegal.

Its all about either the RIGHT folks getting the money the Governemt getting its piece.

Like the dudes at Dead concerts walking up on smokers and insinuating in the group.

Chicks had it easier. Ya had a fattie in your hand and some babe with short shorts and a tie dye halter dances up to you for a hit. But after ripping it, she dances away.

Rediculous comment. I guess if your not Thai you no nothing about Thaksin's extrajudicial killing spree in his war on drugs. Not Thai then have no idea about deals being made to bring Thaksin back. Not Thai then have no idea and no right to comment on corruption. Not Thai then have no idea and should not comment on how MFP was shafted. I could go on for a long time about this but needless to say one doesn't need to be Thai to know about and have an opinion on the aforementioned examples. Your entire post is just a rambling diatribe of complete nonsense.

Compare cannabis to alcohol and tobacco?

Translated:

Re-criminalize cannabis because new studies by "health authorities" find it is as "unhealthy" as alcohol and tobacco.  Then give a nod to the alcohol and tobacco monopolies that their cartels are safe from any further competition from the nascent cannabis industry.

Stay on the cannabis question, please. 🙏

There is a reason why many laws in many countries take a long time from the first idea to actually becoming a law.

If you are implying it's because great due diligence is done in order to evaluate the effects, I disagree.  The delay is in order to line up the profits of all the corporate stakeholders.  Rarely are there representatives of the working class or average citizen in the process.  I'd rather have a poorly crafted bill that then gets canceled because it's a shipwreck than the finely crafted PATRIOT Act in the USA.

Thousands of tonnes a year coming across the boarders. This is what it will go back to. I guess this it what all those screeming "dopeheads" on here would rather see. Maybe they're just completely illinformed or just plain ignorant but criminalising dope again is not the way to go. There is no logic behind this. It's political.

The USA is obviously the best democracy money can buy. They are not a shining example how to do it right.

When a govt comes out and says dope causes harm to society do you not think a comparison to alcohol and cigs which are widely available and consumed by kiddies is not warranted?

No, it's not. However, it's very common nowadays to open a new subject if you don't have any answer to the described one, in this case cannabis.

It's common nowadays to answer with a question.

However, it gives a precise picture of the author.

Only in general speaking, of course.🙏

Part of the reason the govt has given to recriminalise is harm to society. The point being made is alcohol and cigs cause more harm to society than dope and they are legal. If you think this isn't a legitimate argument to posit within this discourse then IMO you are mistaken.

The headline of this thread is Cannabis. Not alc, not apples, not pears. So it's appropriate to stay with Cannabis. If you want to "discuss" other matters you're free to start a new topic.🙏

So why aren’t any of the local shops on board with this? When I mentioned it to them they kind of chuckled and knew that the pm didn’t really have the power. Btw Thailand hasn’t made any decision this is based on merely something the pm said that HE wanted to do.

AFAIK the law is that all shops have to close before April Fools day 2025.

Dope, yaba, alcohol and cigs are all drugs. No apples and pears as you say. All drugs and all available. Now list them most harmful to least harmful. Now think about why is dope going to be reclassified as a narcotic. Now think about the article and should dope be recriminalised. It's called critical thinking. Not everyone is good at this.

Most Doctors in Thailand are against the legal use of cannabis especially where the younger generation can acquire-Experts are still trying to fully understand the long-term effects of using cannabis. There’s lots of conflicting research on this topic, and many of the existing studies have only looked at animals. Many more large, long-term studies in humans are needed to fully understand the lasting effects of cannabis use.

"FACTS" on using Cannabis:

Brain development-Research highlights the potential impact of cannabis on brain development when used during adolescence.

Dependence-According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse a Trusted Source, people who start using cannabis before the age of 18 are four to seven times more likely to develop a cannabis use disorder than those who start using it later in life.

Respiratory problems-Cannabis has been associated with bronchitis, and it may be a risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Cancer.

Sure the Thai Government Flip-Flopped on this, but in my opinion (I'm sure to get "BS" attacks-But remember this is "MY OPINION") is they did this to protect their youth and younger generations to openly acquiring Cannabis. More to come on this issue where it will probably will Flip the other way due to $$$$$$$.
