Popular Post uncletiger
This thread has been interesting. Now let's talk about what really happened in this trial: NY decided to prosecute Trump on something that was no more than an accounting opinion. The problem is, even if they could have convinced anyone it was intentional, it still didn't rise to anything more than the level of a misdemeanor, and the statute of limitations had run out. So they invented a process entirely without precedent: they used a FEDERAL statute as an antecedent crime to try and make the accounting opinion part of a felony case which they could try in a corrupt, kangaroo court in a politically biased district. Here's the problem...the US Election Board had already decided at the Federal level that no crime had been committed for this action. So what precedent did they just set? It means that from now on, if any prosecutor in any of the thousands of very, very red counties in the country can find any sketchy way of tying even a parking ticket to any perceived federal offense, they can now try that larger, federal offense as an antecedent crime in a state court where they are guaranteed to get a sympathetic jury willing to convict on a political whim. SDNY just weaponized every court system throughout the USA. And those who are really in the know are well aware of this, and are terrified of this precedent. This will get overturned on appeal because it has to. It was a horrible miscarriage of justice, and while the Democrats needed this for political purposes, they absolutely can't let it stand or every politician will find himself behind bars. Below statement from your post appears to be a falsehood: "Here's the problem...the US Election Board had already decided at the Federal level that no crime had been committed for this action." The US FEC dropped pursuit of this matter in a split ruling based upon: (1) an approaching statute of limitations deadline, and (2) because there was already an ongoing DOJ investigation which the US Election Committee felt would make their investigation redundant. It is completely false to claim that the US FEC found that "no crime had been committed." https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/05/06/fec-trump-stormy-daniels-cohen/# 2 1

Many legal scholars decry this farce, and not one thinks it will not be thrown out on appeal. The facts are: Dem judge (whose daughter works for the Dems), Dem jury pick from Dem Manhattan, Dem prosecutor raising a SEVEN-year-old misdemeanour to a felony. Prime witnesses - a convicted LIAR and a porn star who signed a letter saying Trump was innocent. It will go to appeal, probably lose and eventually go to SC. It is a very sad day for American justice; in many people's opinion, it is also sad few want to discuss it rationally here, but it is not surprising. Yes, several reasons to suspect a fit-up, from start to finish. Hopefully it will be the start of the finish of Biden instead. 1 1

Popular Post Walker88
Wow! I just watched the newly convicted felon's presser he gave yesterday, taking no questions. Personally, I would have asked about all those criminals just released in the Congo (which he spoke about). WT Ph! How is that related to his whining about finally being convicted? Maybe he's going to ask Judge Merchan to send him to a jail in the Congo? He told us: Dems are going to raise our taxes 4 times (totally made up, but MAGAs will buy it) and "they're going to take away your cars". (Seems odd Biden would take away our cars after putting so much effort into highway and bridge repair via the Infrastructure Bill) He also claimed nothing happened between him and Stormy (I would like to ask his 3rd wife if even she believes that), and then claimed (about the Stormy NDA and payoff), "Everybody has those (NDAs)". I feel so impoverished, not having my fair share of NDAs! Maybe I can buy some at a MAGA store? It was so unhinged and bizarre of a presser, it makes me look forward to the debate on the 27th. A good Biden opening statement line might be: "Hi. I'm Joe Biden. I'm the candidate who doesn't have 34 felony convictions nor $550 million in fines and penalties for business fraud and defamation." 4 1 2 1 1

While most of them had that music he ripped from artists that didn't particularly agreed to it, one of those rallies had Alle menschen werden bruder as opening music, strangely enough. I must admit I was wrong about the closet-fascist part. Edited June 1 by Presto 1 1

Interesting and first I have heard of this dynamic. Under the previous Administration those charges were sufficient for Barr's DoJ to incarcerate Michael Cohen, who was just an underling in the crime. In fact, it was considered sufficiently criminal that Cohen's former boss, who had the power to pardon him (as he pardoned Manafort, Bannon, etc.) chose NOT to do so. Oddly, when the same felony charges are brought against the crime's mastermind, foul is called. 4 1 1
