TallGuyJohninBKK
Vaccine advisers to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) [June 6] recommended switching the SARS-CoV-2 strain from the XBB.1.5 variant to JN.1 for fall vaccine formulations. The recommendation marks the third remake for the COVID vaccine since 2022. The measure unanimously passed, 16 to 0. FDA officials, concerned about further evolution of JN.1, also asked the group to discuss the possibility of recommending an offshoot of JN.1, such as KP.2, that may more closely match currently circulating strains. ... Improvements over XBB.1.5 vaccine JN.1 became the dominant strain in the United States at the end of 2023, but it continues to evolve. Offshoots such as KP.2 and KP.3—now overshadowing the parent virus—have an immune-evasive spike mutation combination that added more complexity to strain-selection considerations. ... In late April, the World Health Organization vaccine advisory group recommended a switch to a monovalent (single-strain) vaccine that contains the JN.1 antigen. TallGuyJohninBKK
Background from CNN: FDA vaccine advisers vote unanimously in favor of updated Covid-19 shot for fall ... "The advisers agreed that more people need to get updated vaccines. Only about 25% of adults have gotten the most recent shot, according to a presentation to the committee. In only the fall and winter months last season, Covid sent more than half a million people in the US to the hospital and killed 40,000, according to data presented at the meeting. The people most likely to get seriously ill or die were unvaccinated, Link-Gelles said, and among the children who were hospitalized, half had no underlying conditions. https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/05/health/fda-vaccine-advisers-covid-shot/index.html Edited June 7 by TallGuyJohninBKK
Popular Post impulse
Here's a couple of little doses of sanity... They quit updating in 2023, but here's the totals, showing that of the 84,643,000 cases age 0-64 years, 276,000 died. That's a tragedy, for sure. But that's 1 in 300 of the cases. From 0-17 years old, there were 16,748,000 cases and 1,642 deaths. That's one death per 10,200 cases. Yet they're recommending vaccinating infants down to 6 months old in spite of no long term data about the side effects. If you want a perfect example of why vaccine uptake is so low, and so few American trust the CDC about vaccinations, here it is. I was one of the first in line when mRNA became available in my area. After waking up with a life altering vaccine injury the day after my 2nd Pfizer, they'd have to hold a gun to my head to put a 3rd into me. But that's me. Have a look at your own age demographic and do your own math. If you're over 65, it may be a good idea... https://www.statista.com/statistics/1254271/us-total-number-of-covid-cases-by-age-group/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/ Under 64 years old, it's hard to see the actual number of hospitalizations per 100,000. Looks like about 1 or 2 per week per 100,000 population. That was in 2023, the latest data I could find with a quick search. But they still want to jab the kids. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/72/wr/pdfs/mm7240a3-H.pdf 1

TallGuyJohninBKK
If you consider the above-cited COVID deaths of some 300 people per week in the U.S. lately -- many of which could have been prevented -- to be a "nothingburger," I guess that says a lot about the value you place on human life. TallGuyJohninBKK
A bit of an update here from the U.S. FDA on the COVID variant that will be used, apparently, for the upcoming fall 2024 version of COVID vaccines in the U.S.: FDA Updates Advice to Manufacturers of COVID-19 Vaccines (2024-2025 Formula): If Feasible Use KP.2 Strain of JN.1-Lineage ... "FDA has continued to monitor the circulating strains of SARS-CoV-2. Based on the most current available data, along with the recent rise in cases of COVID-19 in areas of the country, the agency has further determined that the preferred JN.1-lineage for the COVID-19 vaccines (2024-2025 Formula) is the KP.2 strain, if feasible. This change is intended to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccines (2024-2025 Formula) more closely match circulating SARS-CoV-2 strains. FDA has communicated this change to the manufacturers of the licensed and authorized COVID-19 vaccines. The agency does not anticipate that a change to KP.2 will delay the availability of the vaccines for the United States." https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/updated-covid-19-vaccines-use-united-states-beginning-fall-2024
