question about Diabetes gizmo that checks glucose level
I have an Accu-Check blood glucose monitoring device and it works great. I have a question though, about these blood glucose checking watches or wrist bands and such. I have read that they are not good, do not work etc. Does anyone have any corroborating message or, better yet, know if one of these gadgets really works and what brand? -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
Those who audited @ballpointunderstood this very well. You are making a very common mistake: you vastly underestimate intelligence and education of the Thai middle class. Many farangs (don't know about you) do this because the only Thais they know are hookers and other lowlife. Another is the quintessential American mistake: people who can't orally communicate in English must be stupid. Example: people say, the new tax rules aim at Thai middle class investing abroad. How many American middle class do invest abroad? Or would be able to do that? Could Americans read an Italian balance sheet and invest in Italian small caps? Would they dare to put money into a foreign bank account? How many Americans even dare to exchange their beloved dollars into another currency (except when on holidays)? Thais are not more stupid or uneducated than Americans. -

ICE vs EV, the debate thread
Not just Chiang Mai but it makes sense in many Thai cities, such as Bangkok, Korat, Pattaya, Khon Kaen etc etc where traffic is a nightmare. EVs really come into their own in stop start traffic. Regarding EV fires, yes, this is a definite concern. Empirical data suggests that NMC batteries are much less stable than LFP batteries which is why the majority of new EVs are now fitted with the latter. However, everything in life comes with a risk, from flying to eating a meal. There was a recent case where a man tried to kill himself and his family by driving his Tesla off a cliff. It didn’t catch fire. -

Two Police Officers Escape Injury in Pickup Truck Accident
Two young police officers narrowly escaped death after their pickup truck overturned due to slippery road conditions caused by heavy rain, at 18.00 on August 29.The incident occurred on the Taling Chan-Suphan Buri Road heading towards Bang Bua Thong, in Moo 7, Na Mai Subdistrict, Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province. Police Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong Nakwa, an investigator from Lat Lum Kaeo Police Station, received a report about the accident and immediately rushed to the scene along with emergency responders from the Por Teck Tung Foundation. Upon arrival, they found an overturned Isuzu four-door pickup truck, which belonged to the Bang Pla Ma Police Station. The vehicle had crashed into a barrier and then collided with the fence of a local pallet shop. The pickup was severely damaged, with its roof crushed. Two officers were injured in the accident: Police Sergeant Major Natthapong Phongpun, 30, who sustained a forehead injury, and Police Sub-Lieutenant Itthiphon Jirotpakan, 30, who suffered a right elbow injury and neck pain. Both officers were transported to Lat Lum Kaeo Hospital for treatment. Sergeant Major Natthapong recounted the incident, stating that he and Sub-Lieutenant Itthiphon were returning from Bangkok after delivering confiscated goods. They were traveling along Route 346 in Pathum Thani, intending to make a U-turn onto Route 340 to head back to Bang Pla Ma Police Station. Due to the rain, Natthapong was driving cautiously. However, as they reached the accident site, the vehicle suddenly spun out of control, hitting the barrier before flipping over and landing upside down. "Fortunately, local residents rushed to help us out of the vehicle and called for emergency services," said Sergeant Major Natthapong. He believes that the protective amulet of Luang Por Niam from Wat Noi, which he carried in the truck, played a role in their miraculous survival. Residents in the area expressed concern over the frequent accidents on this road, particularly during rainy conditions. They reported that vehicles often lose control on the slippery road surface, leading to injuries, fatalities, and property damage. The road, which has a polished surface, becomes especially dangerous when wet. "We urge the responsible authorities to take immediate action to address this issue. We fear for the safety of the public who may not be aware of the road's slippery conditions. Every time it rains, we have to close our shops and stay inside, worried that a vehicle might skid into our homes and businesses," a local resident commented. -

How about some DIY optometry (yes I'm in the right forum)
I think most Varifocal lenses now have three zones, all blending into each other. As I said in a previous post, I now have gone for just my long distance prescription, which is fine for PC and telly, and take them off for reading or phone. Seems to work for me.- 1

Altercation between Farang and Chinese women in Phuket
These issues are often just cultural differences that have been exaggerated due to the inability to communicate... this combined by those in many area's of high tourist footfall becoming jaded by the 'hand that feeds them'... ... Without all the tourists many in the area would be poor rubber famers etc - it can be quickly forgotten once familiarity has bred contempt. Many find some other nationalities abrasive and rude, especially en masse and ones the frustration slips in, redeeming qualities are no longer observed having been displaced by confirmation bias. ------------ I recall being at a beach restaurant, lots of Chinese tourist around. One of the Chinese girls at the next table (casual beach seating on mats), gets up, comes to our table and takes the tissue-roll, goes back to her table and puts it down there. So, I get up, with a smile, go to their table, take the tissue-roll back and put it back on my table - and thats that. - I thought it extremely rude that they would do so a thing, but also figured, no big deal, its just another culture and they behave differently.... ... a while later, the same group of women have my Son in their lap and are playing nicely with him (he was about three years old at the time)... They couldn't speak a word of English, the language barrier is sometimes the cause of many of these issues usually borne of an innocuous but innocent misunderstanding. Similarly - I'm having a snooze on the beach... and a Chinese lady stands right next to me and decides to shout for her friend 30m away at the waters edge - Startled, I sit up, turn around and look at the woman stood 1m from me and tell her to 'shut up' !!! (which obviously she doesn't understand, but I'm irritated)... I do the 'shush - finger to lips thing, and then the 'hands together - sleeping thing'... She does the 'hands up - apology thing'.... ... Yes, the Chinese (and other nationals) can be gruff, uncouth, loud and inconsiderate - but none of it is intentionally rude, its just naïve and innocent ignorance most of the time and thats about it.
