Pattaya Police Clamp Down on Foreign Motorcycle Racers in South Pattaya

Pattaya Police recently launched an operation to curb the frequent disturbances caused by mostly Middle Eastern foreigners who race motorcycles and honk excessively, annoying local residents. This action happened at 4:50 AM on July 26th, 2024, at Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

 

The police's aim was to discourage foreigners from violating Thai traffic regulations and behaving unruly. On the said road, they found roughly 50 foreigners on motorcycles. Some managed to escape when they saw the police, but those who couldn't were checked by the officers. They found that most of the foreigners were riding rented motorcycles, and a few had modified exhaust systems for louder noises.

 

Consequently, over ten motorcycles were seized since the renters lacked necessary documents such as licenses and insurance. The police stated that these vehicles would remain in their custody until the rightful owners presented valid documentation and paid fines as stipulated in the Thai Traffic Act for renting to unlicensed individuals.

 

 

Pattaya News reporters at the scene noted that some foreigners attempted to bribe the police with 2,000-3,000 baht to get their motorcycles back, but the offers were declined. Instead, they were told to return to their lodgings and visit the police station the next day to settle their traffic fines legally.

 

This operation follows another similar one executed a few days prior, where several motorcycles lacking vital documentation were seized by the police, reported by The Pattaya News.

i walk down the soi daily. These guys look about 15 years old all rocking moustaches. 2-3 on bikes and all they do is do laps.

They arent actually that crazy but i guess at that age theres nothing else to do.

This seems to be a ongoing problem with young Kuwaiti guys with nothing better to do upsetting the locals with their motor bikes 

Obviously paying fines  🤑 mean nothing to them As parents have plenty 💰

Again, go to the Soi with a flat bed big rig and load up all the big bikes parked for rent!  End of story!

Rumour has it nearly all are illegally rented, as the drivers do not have motorcycle licenses. But the reality is crushing them would impact the Thai business owners who rent them out, and usually police avoid that.

Agreed.  The exhausts are tampered with, to simultaneously raise fuel consumption and pollution; alert local police so they can look away;  attract admiring glances from deaf people.

It is being reported on social media, that this morning, 3 August, that this situation escalated where a group of about 50 foreign tourists on motorbikes attacked a group of Thais, in the Soi Yensabai area.

 

Later in retaliation a group of Thais on motorbikes attached a group of foreign tourist in the same area, but it is not believed that this group that were attacked are part the same orginal group. At least one tourist was rushed to hospital.

August 6, at 5:46, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sombat Kaewmoolmook, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of a serious collision involving motorcycles with multiple injuries. The incident occurred on Chaloem Phrakiat Road 3, Moo 10, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung

 

Rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were dispatched to the scene immediately. Upon arrival, authorities found an orange and black GPX motorcycle, severely damaged at the front. Four women were injured, three seriously and one with minor injuries. The other vehicle involved, a green and black Honda Click motorcycle, which was also extensively damaged. The rider, a 19-year-old Kuwaiti national, sustained serious injuries. All injured parties received initial first aid from rescue personnel before being urgently transported to nearby hospitals. Additionally, two parked vehicles were damaged in the incident.

 

Ms. X (name withheld), reported that she was riding on the GPX motorcycle with three others, heading from South Pattaya to Central Pattaya. As they signaled to turn into Soi Chaloem Phrakiat 19, the Kuwaiti rider, accompanied by another person, collided head-on with their bike while driving in the wrong lane, causing all riders to be thrown in different directions and sustaining injuries.

 

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sombat Kaewmoolmook documented the scene and took photographs as evidence. The authorities plan to review CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the accident.
